This book contains basic "best of" nuggets of information. First-time travelers should be well equipped to visit the main highlights of London. The plastic-covered tri-fold map of the subway and of the main attractions (which is built into the book's front cover) is sturdy, easy to access, and just the right size. The fold-up map (stored in a pocket in the back of the book)would be cumbersome to use while standing on a street corner, but the detailed site maps within the book are very helpful.

Note that the publication date is 2006, so some attraction prices may have increased (for instance, as of 2/2008, the Tower of London's entrance fee is 16 BP, not the listed 14 BP). However, you can use web addresses listed in this guide ... Read More:

This book is crazy. I live in Puerto Rico and there are bunch of things that are downright wrong. They lie in general about the people, food, and best places to go. Another problem is this book is for 'rich prissy' travellers who just want to live in a hotel the whole time. You don't even need a travel book if thats what you want to do. If you want a good book, try Let's Go Puerto Rico which is by far the best guide to a free-spirited traveller on this island.

Other reviews have mentioned that Malaysia (especially Borneo) is given short shrift. I agree. The Singapore section is helpful, however. In planning our trip we relied on Lonely Planet more for peninsular Malaysia and Borneo.

I know this a "portable guide" to the Dominican Republic, but still it is extremely bare bones and basic. It includes a decent section on Santo Domingo but absolutely nothing on Santiago - the country's second largest city. The rest of this thin volume includes only a couple of short sections on the DR's tourist areas - the North Coast, Punta Cana and Boca Chica. To someone attempting to explore anywhere else in the DR this book is virtually useless. Even for my brief one week trip to Puerto Plata I found nothing in this guide that I had not already discovered on the Internet.

I am usually a fan of Frommer's guidebooks. But this one just doesn't cut it.

Quite handy companion and map information up to date. However, bigger size would have really made a difference. Smaller size is easier carry but convenience viewing is compromised.

The date on the latest edition says 2007, but this book is completely out of date.

I took a quick look at the Madrid chapter and immediately found the following:

(a) The subway map is old (p. 98); line 8 from the airport started running to Nuevos Ministerios a long time ago but this is not shown.

(b) On pg. 94 it is claimed that there are airport buses to Plaza de Colon. They used to go there, but since Feb. 2005 (two Frommer editions ago!) they terminate at Avenida de America.

(c) On pg. 41 there is the wacky claim "There is a very favorable exchange rate in Spain when you pay in US dollars". The exchange rate for euros isn't any different in Spain than anywhere else, and it isn't "favorable" at all. When do you think ... Read More:

The book seems nice enough, and I am sure it is a wonderful travel companion, but does unfortunately not cover the north east area / Dolomites area (South Tyrol) of Italy - that's where we are planning to go - so I opted to return it.

The book was not up to date. It had information from 2006. It didn't mention the Queen Victoria and the newer ships. I thought I was going to get current information. I wish I had ordered the Fodor book.
