I have devoured each of De Blasi's other books and I think about them often. She captivated me with her style of writing and her passion. This latest book just did not grab hold of me in the same way. It's written in lovely style but I just don't care about the ones written about as much as I have in the other offerings. I guess I like to hear about Marlena, her husband and their interactions with locals in each of the places they have lived.

Though many swear by the LP guides, my Eyewitness guide did me well during my recent 10 day excursion through Marrakesh, Fes, and Casablanca. It's not so great for finding hotels and restaurants, as well as many "big picture" details (like where to find walking tours, etc.), but the history sections at the beginning of the guide were incredibly informative and helped me understand the culture and background of the people before I went, and the pictures (both photos and illustrations) and descriptions of the sites are great. Especially important since in Morocco, if there's a non-Arabic description of anything, it's typically only in French. The book was a bit too basic for my taste. I understand that the layperson doesn't have access to many things that a doctor does. But to me, the book was more about band-aids than it is about stitches. I think it could have been a little meatier.
Due to the limited availability of many medicines to the average Joe (or Jane), I suppose the writer couldn't put in a lot of information on how to treat as a doctor would. But I was actually hoping for more of that kind of information.

Schaum' Outling is simply a perfect book which has everything inside including tons of exercises. Once you finish this book like I did you will see that other books are not that necessary to do because this one is enough. It is written every possible detail that you can imagine so it makes sure that you dont skip any exception. I suggest this book to everybody however I believe that you would better profit from this book if you know just a little bit basic french but thats all. Now I can write and say whatever I want and I can communicate and live easily in a francophone country. Thank you Schaum!

The book is a treatise on food and travel.
There are pictures of splendid scenery throughout
the world. For instance, the Sichuan Province is
depicted in full color. The Sunderbans are shown.
They are rice growers in tiger country. Excellent
views of Indonesia, the Balinese life and friendly
people are depicted in breath-taking color.

There is a beautiful scene of the Sarawak River
in a travelogue of Malaysia. The photographer
captured a very realistic picture of a Shanti
village in Ghana. The book would be a perfect
gift for the student in your house.

As someone who left Indonesia years ago, this guide is an interesting reminder. A little superficial maybe. It's a travel guide and not a political history book, so it omits a lot of bloody history about the previous Suharto dictatorship.

But the photos are nice and convey some of the tropical beauty of the countryside in Java. The authors show several scenic spots, though focused on Java since most of the people are there. Bali gets a lot of coverage, because foreigners throng to its beaches and nightclubs.
