This is a fairly bland tourist guide to Israel. Don't expect it to lead you anywhere that the Israel tourist information map won't. It'll give you telephone numbers for the sheratons, but not much off the beaten track. There are some big gaps, including almost no mention of the elephant in the room: ie the Palestinian territories, and their ongoing occupation. Travel into the West Bank is pretty much dismissed in a sentence. Israel & the Palestinian territories are a unique place, but if you follow this guide you'll probably come back none the wiser.

I have the 2002 version, so I'm not sure about the differences. However, I love this book. It is very accessible to a first-time speaker of Korean. Its grammar section lays out some of the most basic rules in a clear, easy-to-follow way. It provides tons of words and phrases with Korean script, romanization, and English.

I usually think of phrasebooks as written only for travelers but more or less useless for language students. That is not the case here. I refer to this book often.

This book provides the best information for those traveling to South America. It's content is precise, updated, and unique. Further to this, the structure of the book is extremely useful for those that are not looking for the "standard", "packaged" vacation.

I was excited to get this book a year ago and spent many delighted hours thumbing through it. We've gone to probably just shy of 25 of the places listed (all in the U.S). The kids have had the best time. There is a geographical index in the back that list the places by state or country location which is helpful. We've grouped together several listed activities into one trip. If you have an adventurous spirit, I think you'll love this book. This isn't the only travel book you'll ever need,either. While there is some very basic information on where to fly into and where to stay, it isn't enough to get by on. I think this book should be thought of more as an idea book rather than a travel guide.

I love these books. I have Italy, Spain, Great Britain, Mexico, Germany, Switzerland, New Zealand and France. The information is good and the pictures are great. I don't actually take these books travelling with me. I look at them before I go and plan what I want to do by the books. I highly recommend these books for anyone who wants a travelling guide or for people who just want to read up on a country. The books have a wide range of information.

For several years I've been using the Fodor's published books when going on vacation and wouldn't consider another product. When planning my visit to Arizona (having never been there) it was very helpful and detailed. The book is organized very well and now contains comments that have been submitted by other travelers. The book also contains a LOT of information about the Grand Canyon.

The definitive book on New Zealand travel-bar none. More than just a travel book, the Rough Guide also includes a somewhat balanced thumbnail sketch of the people and local issues. You end up with a Cliff Notes cultural 'feel' that I found very useful especially when reading their newspapers or speaking with the people. While the Rough Guide is based in backpacking and hostels and I am more of the room service in the hotel type, I wouldn't go to NZ without this book under my arm. The authors seem to know virtually every square meter of the country..what it is, what's it's history, and is it worth seeing. If there's a junction with 2 cottages and a petrol stop, they've been there and know where to stay and eat. There is a newer version of this book ... Read More:

Loved this book. Used it in July '08 and it reflected the French passion for food. The restaurants reviewed were accurately portrayed. Their particular specialties were listed as well as the prix fixe & a la carte costs, etc. In short, you have all the info you could possibly want about restaurants...locations, hours, phone & fax numbers. I would definitely use it again for my next trip to Paris. Buy it, you'll really like it.

Overall, I greatly appreciated the helpful cultural hints, the maps of major cities, and the recommendations on where to eat. The one thing I think this book is lacking is a more comprehensive listing of possible hotels/hostels. The large portion of their recommended housing requires a reservation at least two months in advance, which limited my options and forced me to use internet sites to locate peer-reviewed housing.

Frommer's is packed with information, and it's reasonably well organized. It covers a huge and diverse country with a reasonable amount of detail. It's written to appeal to a wide range of travelers, but it's probaly most useful for people who are (1) traveling on their own rather than on a group tour and (2) planning to go mid- to high budget, not low-budget. (Mid-budget in India will get a you a long way -- food, services and rail are amazingly inexepensive as of March '07.)

There's a bit of hysteria in the section on getting ready -- you don't need all those immunizations unless you're going to places where the specific disease is endemic. Check on-line with the US Centers for Disease Control for more realistic advice.
