Great walking tours are included in this Rough Guide to Hong Kong and Macau-the directions are explicit and easy to follow and the places to which we ventured exceeded expectations. There were GREAT shopping tips for a shopping mecca and we scored on several fronts! This is a great way to introduce yourself to Hong Kong and Macau before you get there and a great way to bring what you read into reality. A must-buy for travel to Asia.

If you are thinking of taking a trip to Chicago, this book is great to have. The only thing was that it was a little confusing trying to figure out the different areas in the city - I wish it would have been a little more descriptive for those of us who haven't gone many places in Chicago. However, we did try several of the restaurants that were recommended, and we were satisfied with all of them! Great tidbits of knowledge on the city as well, learned a lot before even going!

As of June 2007, this book has become out of date. Many of the shikumen houses that I went to visit have been torn down in Shanghai in an effort to modernize the city by 2010 for the World Expo. Maps of the metro subways are also out of date. The book currently has partial maps of the 2 lines. There are now 5 different subway lines and still many more to be built. This book is a great introduction to Shanghai, but it is out of date (just like pretty much all the other books on the city).

To sum it up, pretty good book, but just don't count on the book being your only source of information on Shanghai.

I just got back from England last night and took three of the day trips described in this book: Winchester, Dover and Hampton Court. Obviously these guides are somewhat subjective, so I didn't always agree with the authors' opinions on certain things, but the factual information on how to get from London to the destinations was spot on. Their suggestions on obtaining a Brit Rail pass and/or a Great British Heritage Pass saved me loads of money and time. I would also recommend England for Dummies, which is also by Frommer's. It gave some great general info about England and London not in this text.

Just returned from 2 weeks in South Africa on a hybrid business/pleasure trip, where I went on Safari in Kruger, visited Soweto, Newtown, Sandton and Benoni in Johannesburg for work, went to Port Elizabeth, and then to Durban (Scottburgh, Amanzimtoti, Umhlanga and Shaka Zulu), and finally back to Pretoria for work. I took two books with me: this "Eyewitness Travel Guide" and the Frommers' South Africa book. I really found the "Eyewitness" to be more along the lines of something you might read BEFORE you go. There are beautiful pictures and descriptions of things, but it doesn't tell you how to get there, who to contact, where to stay (in an easy way) that's close by, etc. It's more of a teaser, really. This is an excellent "study guide" before going to the UK. I would definitely recommend it from cover to cover. The author is very thorough to the point of giving lists of American words vs. British words with their respective meanings.

I have found this book to be full of great information! I look forward to utilizing it while we are in Vegas to do things that we normally wouldn't know about or would be less likely to find. Sometimes it's hard to remember where you read about something but I'm excited about checking out some of things I've found while reading the guide.

This series just keeps me amazed!!! I have 9 books of the Eyewitness Travel Guide and it hasn't let me down just yet! This book has everything you need!! It has the maps of the Metros, helpful tips on how to save money, it has guided walks (I took them and they are fabulous!!) It has a very detailed map of the center of Barcelona with Street Finders (VEEERRYYY helpful). It has colorful pictures and the story behind them.

I went to Spain on the Easter Holiday. Spent 4 days in Madrid and 4 days in Barcelona. I had been to Madrid before, but not in Barcelona. I went there with my boyfriend and it was his first time too. While this book adequately covers the absolute major sights in Eastern Europe, if you're planning on going anywhere remotely other than the top five spots (Krakow, Prague, etc) LP Eastern Europe is pretty inadequate. With only about 7-8 pages to cover the entire nation of Montenegro, for example, LP occasionally only acknowledges that entire regions exist. Not mentioning Montenegro's second major airport (Tivat), for example, is a huge oversight. As with most LP regional guides, if you're planning on spending more than about 4 days in a given country, you might as well spring for the country guide.
