I have used other "Eyewitness Travel Guides" before and I really like having all of the pictures, renderings, and map layouts. It makes it much easier to correlate what is in the book vs. what you are seeing in front of you. There were a couple of attractions (like the capitol or Washington monument) that were a bit tricky to get into or get tickets for, and it would have been nice if the book had covered those better.

The book was sufficient to be the only that I need, but still sufficiently small to stash in a bag and carry around with us.

This is, as made clear by every review, a beautiful book. But on our trip to Italy, we found ourselves using Rick Steves WAY MORE. This book has great pictures and maps, and is good for planning, but it lacks the information Rick Steves gives such as where to park. We would have been completely lost without the Rick Steves book. I will give it this though: We found our hotel from this book and it turned out to be a very nice hotel. Also, this boo weighs a ton so carrying it around was kind of a pain. Get it a a keepsake, but not as a tool for while you are on your trip. Or use it only for the planning stages. My husband and I went to New York for Labor Day Weekend and took this book with us everywhere we went. It had helpful information about restaurants and handy subway maps.

Its only problem is its size. It's a little big. You couldn't put it in your pocket, but it fits all right into a large-ish purse.

I love the eyewitness travel guides, the beautiful pictures and history make them well worth the money. This one on Spain is beautiful and each page I read makes me more excited to start my trip. The only downside I would say is read it before you go, I think it is to heavy to take with me and it is not just a book you can thumb through to find something. Thank you very much.

My husband recommended the purchase of this book after reading multiple reviews on this and other travel guides. We bought this one as well as one two others and were given two additional travel guides. Rick Steves' guide is clearly the best out there! The book gives practical advice regarding culture, safety, places to stay, where to find decent restrooms, how to navigate the city, prices of taxis, food and hotels, and much much more! The book is updated every year or two to ensure accuracy of the data. The book adheres to the needs of those traveling from the U.S. The key sites are outlined thoroughly so you do not need to hire a tour guide if you do not want to spend the money. I would (and have) highly suggest this book to anyone going to Istanbul.

Though many swear by the LP guides, my Eyewitness guide did me well during my recent 10 day excursion through Marrakesh, Fes, and Casablanca. It's not so great for finding hotels and restaurants, as well as many "big picture" details (like where to find walking tours, etc.), but the history sections at the beginning of the guide were incredibly informative and helped me understand the culture and background of the people before I went, and the pictures (both photos and illustrations) and descriptions of the sites are great. Especially important since in Morocco, if there's a non-Arabic description of anything, it's typically only in French. I like pictures. I understand a place I am visiting when I see it and not just have it described in words. This series of books are idea for those of us who want to know the history and context of what we're seeing.
