. Rick Steves' Prague and The Czech Republic (Rick Steves)
City Travel Guides > Books > Guidebook Series
by: Rick Steves, Honza Vihan
February 20, 2008
Reading this book has helped me understand why Prague has become a top tourist destination. Now I, too, want to explore the architecture, music, food, and history of what sounds like an amazing city. With this book I feel comfortable planning a visit, even without knowing a word of the language. Having used other of Rick Steves' books in the past, I trust him to steer me to enjoyable, safe, and affordable experiences.
As in all of his books, Steves states his approach to travel clearly: he doesn't cover everything, just the "best" places, the best according to him, of course. My tastes and orientation align with his (interesting, moderately priced travel, including as much local immersion as is reasonable), so I rely on his books ... Read More:

. Rick Steves' Spain 2008 (Rick Steves)
City Travel Guides > Books > Guidebook Series
by: Rick Steves
October 28, 2007
I bought Spain 2008 for my trip. My main language is Spanish, my second language is English so I was looking for a book in Spanish to guide me into my Spain trip. I look many books in Spanish and English I couldn't find a better explained book than this Spain 2008 by Rick Steves. I just came from my trip and I have to say the book is fantastic!!! it is literally a guide to what to see what not to see and how you can save money, the advices he gives you for each city what to do and see are great, very well explained, simple and easy. Also he explains a small summary of the history around the place you will see. He says where to go and how to go, buses #, timetables and prices. I have to say he was short by 10% on each of prices. I assume it is for the economic ... Read More:

. Morocco (Country Guide)
City Travel Guides > Books > Guidebook Series
by: Anthony Ham

This is yet another informative and useful travel guide from Lonely Planet. Almost all the descriptions are very detailed and accurate. I recently came back from a rather short, but power packed tour of Morocco and this guide helped me plan the trip very well.
The supplemental information about the food, sweets, history and culture is very helpful.
It only seems to lack in providing a list of tour companies that can arrange trips into Sahara. It is very difficult for a solo backpacker to plan a trip to the desert without being ripped by the travel agents and the so called faux guides.

. Rick Steves' Germany and Austria 2008 (Rick Steves)
City Travel Guides > Books > Guidebook Series
by: Rick Steves
December 28, 2007
Planning a brief trip to a country as varied and historic as Germany is demanding, but this book has been my best resource. As in all of his books, Steves states his approach to travel clearly: he doesn't cover everything, just the "best" places, the best according to him, of course. My tastes and orientation align with his (interesting, moderately priced travel, including as much local immersion as is reasonable), so I rely on his books to provide the wonderful backbones of great trips. For visiting places other than his "best" I use a more comprehensive guide book, like Lonely Planet, in addition to (rather than instead of) his.
For myself, a traveler with only a few days passing through Germany (on this trip), Steves' approach works well. His recommendations ... Read More:

. Mexico (EYEWITNESS TRAVEL GUIDE)
City Travel Guides > Books > Guidebook Series
by: DK Publishing
August 21, 2006
EYEWITNESS TRAVEL GUIDES are the best guides you could find. I've bought every one they have published to the places I have visited, and always know where I want to go and what are the most important places to visit,
with the pictures and 3D images of the buildings and maps I don't get surprises as to visit a place not worth while. You optimize your travel time. I have about twenty of their guides, just hope they increase the places they review in the near future.
I'm from Mexico and found it very useful.

. Israel & the Palestinian Territories (Country Guide)
City Travel Guides > Books > Guidebook Series
by: Michael Kohn
March 01, 2007
Although Lonely Planet guides are generally good, this one was a major disappointment. It has a very, very one sided pro-Arab and anti-Israel spin to it. Many Jewish areas are glossed over and not given enough detail. Jewish sites in the territories are completely ignored. Much time, space, and detail is given over to Palestinian areas and which Palestinian charities to contribute to, etc. and where to buy Palestinian handicrafts that will benefit refugees...etc, etc. ad nausuem, ad infinitum. Israel is a Jewish country and that is what should be emphasized in a guidebook. Sadly this was not the case. Incidentally the previous edition of this book by Andrew Humphries was better. Maybe I should write my own book?
