Never Not Knitting! 2009 CalendarI know its not 2009 yet and YES this is a 2009 calendar but IT IS Stephanie Pearl-McPhee. I have flipped through it and read many of the entries. Very cool stuff and classic Pearl-McPhee. If you are looking for a great Christmas present for the knitter in your life, this is the thing to buy . . . even when 2009 is over, s/he will keep it!

Anyone who loves horses will also love this book! The author perfectly describes the personalities of her horses, and she weaves a lesson of personal growth into a moving story about an abused horse. It's great!

First, I bought this as an audiobook to get me thru a cross-country drive.
This is not a good choice for audio format - maybe you need the klitchy recipes and photos to make it as cutesy as it is billed to be. Still, I thought the content was not funny at all, just condescending, childish hostess advice most everyone has heard already. Marbles in your med chest? Oldest trick in the book, but as someone who really has entertained company (and actually cares about their comfort, also known as "hospitality") more helpful is to place items guests might be embarrased to ask for in your med chest - like aspirin, Tums, tampons, etc. Yeah, I get that it is supposed to be tongue-in-cheek but it never quite gets there. Smart Soapmaking is far and away the best book on making soap at home. I have several other books on the subject which, for me, are far too complicated and scientific. They make the process seem far too daunting, to the point where you give up before you start. Anne Watson has thoroughly explained everything in simple yet practical terms and has taken away completely the fear factor. Her book makes you anxious to get started where the other books might discourage you. I cannot recommend more highly this book. I will never look at my other books on this subject again, no need to. This book is simply the best, better than all the rest!

I just passed the Technician test with 100% using this book. I also used some on-line test exams from various websites. The book is well laid out. The main material is in the front of the book and the test questions are at the back. As you read through the book, after each section there are related practice test questions to take. After I had worked through all the sections in the book, I just kept going through the practice test questions over and over until I got them right. The questions in the back of the book have indicators refering back to the related section in case you want to study more. This beautiful book is an object for repeated gazing. And if, like me, your interest in jewelry is based on looking and puzzling and asking "How did she do that?" Susan Lenart Kazmer's book is the best, because in all cases she not only gives you fabulous images to look at, she tells you how she did it and how you can do it too.

The photography is gorgeous and inspiring. The text is clear and intimate and full of Susan's strong true voice. The reader learns not only about cold connections but about the many sources of meaning lying in wait for Susan and her students and fans. What appear to be descriptions of different kinds of cold joins are really journeys into worlds of symbols and the physical objects that become their vehicles.

I really liked this book as I am kind of a "do my own thing my own way" type of person. So if that is you, I think this book may appeal to you. The only thing I would change in her text is that I would add more room to the hip measurement, from 6 to 8 maybe. It just gives a lot of possibilities to work off of and I liked that. I can't buy just all the books I would like but I considered this a good purchase. It may not be that great for a person with no sewing experience at all though but you would have to judge that for yourself. Maybe just think ten times about what and why you are doing something and then cut once.
