Hometown Pasadena: The Insider's Guide Writer Colleen Dunn Bates, a friendly Pasadena woman nearing 50, thought she had a good idea: to put together an upscale guidebook about her city -- a kind of travel book for people who live there. A big thank you to Julie!!!! This book guided me every step of the way. I ordered the book on 3-17-08, and on 6-3-08 I was on my first boat!! Julie not only gives you an accurate view of what working on a yacht is truly like, she includes her own personal accounts out at sea (which, by the way, are quite funny!!). Julie includes EVERYTHING you will need from training, accomodations, to local spots to network in various ports. I bought this book with no real intention on changing my career. I live in Santa Barbara, and this is the best guidebook that I have found. It is a bit out of date, as some restaurants and even hotels have closed. A new edition is in order, but until then, this book is very useful for residents and visitors alike.

This book keeps it simple and to the point. It covers the historical to the modern day interests of an ever changing Southern city. As a native East Tennessean, I found myself spending more time in Nashville for both business and pleasure. I have found this to be an excellent resource to consult when I need ideas or just a bit more information for hotels, dining, or events.
