This is a very good guide to San Antonio, the author at least seems to know the city. The guide focuses on the things that make this city so special. The guide is easy to navigate, well thoughtout and thorough. San Antonio is one of the unique American cities, along with San Francisco, New Orleans, and New York City. I love this city, it is so layed back and friendly, it exudes that hill country charm. It's a big city, that does not feel like one. The German, Hispanic, and Anglo cultures melt together here and form a uniquely american city. This is a very good guide to one of America's urban treasures.

I have read Ira Neimarks book twice. First for enjoyment and the for forsight!
Mr Neimark talks about how retail is constantly evolving and if you do not stay one step ahead, no matter what position you hold you can fall two steps behind. He gives first hand accounts of meetings with the leaders of the industry and how they helped shape the important role that retail plays in our country's economic development.
A strong and knowledgeable businessman who will take any company that he works for to the top along with anyone who wants to join him, he shows the reader that retail is fun, exciting and a tough business to be in, but with commitment and quality to excellence one can achieve their goals.

Made the mistake, a couple times, of driving to a location that no longer exists (went out of business since the publication date of this guide). You would think I would have learned after the first one, and called ahead to make sure.

The guide is nothing special. I used it to guide me to three restaurants. Twice, I arrived to find the business long since had vanished. The third provided me an average BBQ dinner.

The guide does warn you against certain parts of town, regarding hotels. This is good advice. Memphis is a crime-ridden city. First night there, my inlaws had their car broken into. I stayed (paying a premium) at a spot that the book recommended would be safe. That worked out well.

Having returned from a trip to Europe this summer, I found this book and was interested in seeing if Yvoire, a cute little French medieval village on the shores of Lake Geneva, was included in this book. We visited Yvoire in mid-June and although the town received some tourists throughout the day, my wife and I spent the night in Yvoire and I couldn't pick out one other tourist in the town. It was our favorite place in all of Europe.

Sure enough, this book dedicates two entire pages to Yvoire. I had to get this book to look for other French villages we should visit on our next trip! This book is organized not by area, but by sections on restaurants, accommodations, attractions, etc. As someone who is unfamiliar with the different towns in Maine, I had to consult the map each time I wanted to know where a particular attraction is located. I personally am more interested in a book organized by geographical area. It also pretty much entirely skips over the Blue Hill Peninsula, aside from a few paragraphs describing it. It offered no info on what to find there as far as places to stay, etc.
