This book is a good resource on Edinburgh, especially considering how few books there are on Edinburgh only. The photos are nice, and the book contains good, useful information! Definitely worth getting if you're planning a trip to Edinburgh!

Okay, I bought this book with another one from DK (for Canada) to go to Quebec, Montreal, Toronto and Niagara Falls. I was attracted to the detailed description of the history, different districts in Montreal etc.

As it turns out, don't expect this book will help during the trip. It is only good for the background materials, the real hardcore touring part...it's a disaster for us.

We first arrived in Montreal, and found we had a hard time locating the actual tour site descriptions in the book. This book do it in a very "romantic" way, we had to read an entire paragraph to see the site we want pop up somewhere, and that's about all we can find. This series of books are interesting to read and have beautiful pictures and maps. They are wonderful for armchair travel and to help in planning a trip as they give a wonderful overview of the history, culture and most interesting places to visit of the areas they represent. There is no detail as to lodging or restuarants so this is not the guide if that's what you're looking for, but I have enjoyed them and packed them on trips for help in planning sightseeing excursions and to help me understand and appreciate the history and culture of the places I'm visiting. They have enriched my travel experience.

I have bought this book around 10 days ago and must say that I am very disappointed about its content. I bought it because of the superb star rating it had. It is undoubtedly not ideal at all for someone who will be fending for himself whilst in Italy as all it has is superb photography and a good description of the various locations, but no info on tourist info offices, how to get to the various locations, emergency numbers etc. I sincerely can only suggest it to somebody who will be guided by somebody who is very familiar with the territory. I must say it is not written for the budget traveller and the few hotels and restaurants which are suggested at the back of the book are too expensive to even be considered by a budget traveller. ...
