.Insight Guide Shopping in Paris (Insight Guides (Shopping Guides)) City Travel Guides > Books > Insight Guide from: Insight Guides 2003-04 Shopping in Paris can be a good introductory guide to the basics of what was where in the City of Lights at the time the book was written. Because, as the authors indicated, fashions and fashionable neighborhoods are constantly shifting, it is hard to keep track of the latest developments. I liked the book as a good point of departure, especially for first time visitors with limited time and wishing to shop. .Insight Guide Montreal & Quebec City (Insight City Guides Montreal) City Travel Guides > Books > Insight Guide by: Julia Roles 2003-07 Okay, I bought this book with another one from DK (for Canada) to go to Quebec, Montreal, Toronto and Niagara Falls. I was attracted to the detailed description of the history, different districts in Montreal etc. As it turns out, don't expect this book will help during the trip. It is only good for the background materials, the real hardcore touring part...it's a disaster for us. We first arrived in Montreal, and found we had a hard time locating the actual tour site descriptions in the book. This book do it in a very "romantic" way, we had to read an entire paragraph to see the site we want pop up somewhere, and that's about all we can find. As a practical guide book with details about logistics such as transport and accommodation it is not particularly helpful. I would not recommend this book for the independent budget traveller for this reason. However, to dismiss this book as unhelpful would be a mistake. Firstly, it contains many beautiful photographs to illustrate the text. These alone make the book worthwhile and it is something that can be kept as a reference long after your travels are over. Secondly, all the essays are written by local writers with expertise in their fields.
