We just got back from Japan 3 days ago it was a wonderful two weeks. This book was a tremendous help. It has wonderful maps details of things to see on the maps. It even mentions train stations to help you get to where you are going. It goes thru the history of Japan as well a great section on the most popular places to see and eat at in Japan.

It gives wonderful information like the Shinjuku Station is the busiest in Japan with over 3 million people passing thru it each and every day. We experienced that when we went to see the Shinjuku Gyoen. There were so many people everywhere and you felt packed like a sardine but it was exciting to be apart of that experience. This book has an excellent map. However, other than that, it is anything but comprehensive. It offers no budget options and only covers very selected locations. Besides the map, it was not used at all on our 2 week trip to Costa Rica.

Unreadable national and regional maps, rambling, garbled prose, pictures with vague or misleading captions, no city maps, and USELESS text are only a few of the reasons not to buy this book!

Text: if they mention a museum is worth visiting, I want the address! Nope, details like that are not found in this book. Instead, you encounter endless run-on sentences with far too many adjectives.

Maps: their choice of color and patterning makes it impossible to tell borders from roads, and highways from country tracks. USELESS.

There are lots and lots of pretty pictures, but most of them have captions like "Autumn splendor" - WHERE? What are you showing me?
