This book is certainly heavy on the eye-candy - it has lots of great pictures (though perhaps dated... very late-80's hair styles) and nice listings describing the colleges and whatnot. If you're looking for something that gives a feel for the look of the place (or at least the look on nice early-summer days when all the students are wearing their gowns), this is a lovely place to look.

Unfortunately, glaring factual errors and odd 'stereotypes' really detracted from the quality of this guide. Included is a brief summary of the Oxford colleges. Lots of striking photos, thoughtful discussions of historical and cultural topics, useful descriptions of important attractions, and mention of top restaurants and accommodations make this a worthwhile guide for adults traveling in New Mexico. It would serve well as a valuable and interesting supplemental guide to enrich a trip, but not as a primary source of basic travel information. Traveling families will also want to consult other guides as activities for children are not addressed. As its name suggests, this guide provides insights, not facts and figures, but it does that very well.

Insight Guides are generally worth buying for the pictures alone, and the Burma/Myanmar volume is no exception. Background sections are generally good, although there is not much on Buddhism or nat worship (these topics are filled out more in connection with individual sites, however). Covers the entire country (unlike the Odyssey guide). Although it is sometimes a little dry, this guide manages to convey virtually all of the facts you will need about each place you visit, along with the associated mythology, significance of the site, and so on.

I bought this book, not as a travel guide, but as a "coffee-table book" about the country of Haiti. As such, it is FANTASTIC! Sure, there are some typos in this first edition, but the publisher specifically invites readers' contributions & corrections (p. 2) for future editions. The photos in this book are vivid, stunning depictions of life in Haiti and the Dominican Republic. This book has an excellent map. However, other than that, it is anything but comprehensive. It offers no budget options and only covers very selected locations. Besides the map, it was not used at all on our 2 week trip to Costa Rica.

This book has alot of information in it about Texas which is good considering that is the title of the book. If you need a book for those that have never been to Texas and want to know of some places to go and see and want alittle bit of history on the area then this book is what you need. Even those people who are from Texas like myself can benefit from it cause lets face it Texas is a big state and even the people that live in it don't know everything there is to know about the state or where things are located. All around the book was very helpful for not only me but the friend I bought it for. Now she wants to go visit Texas very badly. haha!
