I researched Australia for over a year prior to my April 2002 visit there, and I read as many guides and books as I could find. While in Australia I purchased a local behemoth encycledia of the country, thinking that was as good as it gets.

I found the Insight Guide at my local library after I returned, and I am convinced this is THE single book anyone with more than a passing interest in Australia should buy.

The very heavy paper presents the beautiful color pictures in high resolution, and the articles are written in a complete yet entertaining style. Australian artwork highlights the history section. On planning a trip to Ireland (return trip for me, first trip for my kids) I wanted to dig up as much info as possible.
With so little time (and money) I wanted the most of what I had!!
After securing the Eyewitness guides and the Frommers guides, I stumbled upon Insights and was so impressed!!
It not only was a guide, but a reading book as well.
The pictures by far are the best!!
Looking through it makes me want to be there on my trip, NOW!
Let's just say, I HAVE to own this one!!
It's costly, more than the others, but well worth putting into your collection!

Good guide covering the most important items in Tuscany in a to the point fashion. The map with scenic routes indicated are a plus.
The aim of the guide (in my opinion) is for travelling through tuscany.
Not the right guide for detailed city info.

For those of us in the category of visual learners, this travel guide reigns above most others. Each page contains a picture. In fact, most pages have multiple pictures and there are also a large number of full page and two page photos.

Surprisingly, the Insight Guide to Scotland is part history book and part travel guide. Many guides highlight the historical significance of a few high traffic monuments but the Insight Guide will leave you genuinely enlightened regarding Scotland's long, colorful and sometimes unbelievable tale.

Once you've thrown in the obligatory highlights on whiskey, Guinness and Burns; Insight's Guide produces one of the best overall travel guides I've ever reviewed.

What a pleasure to read such a high-quality book... It introduces each of the islands in a colorful and vivid way. The book includes many pictures, and provides a fine insight into the culture and character of the islands and touches on history, people, travel, activities, sights, nature, and a lot more.
However, if you are looking for a book with accurate travel information, e.g. hotels, restaurants, prices/dates, how to get there, etc., this book is on the weaker side. Use it together with the Frommer's Caribbean guide for a combination that is hard to beat. Despite this weakness, it's still a five star on my bookshelf.

Why would anyone bother to read this when there is the lonely planet guide available? This is in my opinion a vastly inferior guide when compared not just to lonely planet but to many of the others available, it lacks organisation and detail.
