The top ten lists are pretty good for what they are -- top suggestions of what to see/do/buy/eat. If you want lots of history or detail, you'll need a fatter guidebook. Lonely Planet and Let's Go fit my style for a reference guide, but Fodor's or Frommer's may fit yours. Good maps of the major places in the city, and a Metro map. If you follow this guidebook's advice to never drive yourself, the maps are plenty. We recently moved to Lakeside, and the pages are dog-eared already. Sometimes I almost feel like Ms. Kendrick is reading my mind. I think, "I wonder where to get..." or "Is there a place nearby to..." and it is in the book. .Yucatan Peninsula Map by Rough Guides (Rough Guide Country/Region Map) City Travel Guides > Books > Latin America by: Rough Guides November 20, 2003 Please ignore the review from the idiot who doesn't know how to read a map. This map has a fine scale, with mileage marked in kilometers (maybe they don't know the difference between kilometers and miles? Or just can't read a map?) We actually ran into one place where the map was out of date, and a new road was not marked--I would recommend getting the more recent version of this map. It is excellent, though, and definitely a must for a drive across the Yucatan. It's tough and waterproof and virtually indestructible. .Rio de Janeiro (City Guide) City Travel Guides > Books > Latin America by: Regis St. Louis August 01, 2008 They've written so many of these guides that they are becoming a tad generic on their advice. I bought this and found a lot of information outdated to inaccurate when I arrived. However, if you're not planning on going to Rio right away, and find yourself very curious about this great city, I would definitely recommend it. It is very interesting, and completely different to western culture. If you're young and into the singles scene, or on business like I was and want more of a sure thing with brazilian women, I would recommend adding with this title The Hedonist: World Sex Guide - Single Male Erotic Vacations in Rio, Costa Rica, Thailand, Carribean and much more Side note.
