excellent, detailed, in depth summary of Cusco's attractions and major treks. Good, clear, informative write ups on the ruins, towns and hikes in the area with maps.

I have planned several trips to Panama using this book. The writing is clear, concise, and is generally accurate. I wouldn't say the book has an excess of personality to it (you wouldn't read it for fun), but it covers just about everything you'd want to know for your trip.

My only quibble is that this book needs to be updated. Panama is changing quite rapidly (the prices as well as the physical landscape) and a 3 year book will rapidly lose its value.

All in all, still the best around at what it does.

I really like this book. Fits perfectly in your handbag or saddlebag out on the trail. All the basics are covered here and even some things you may never need to say at all - such as various pick up line in bars! There is a nice sense of humor paired with common sense throughout this phrasebook. However, if you need to find a particular word for a particular item you will need a true Engligh/Spanish dictionary rather than a phrasebook. I carry both with me almost constantly.

Ce nouveau guide des oiseaux du Pérou écrase largement l'ancien qui sur le terrain ne permettait pas de reconnaître grand chose !
La qualité des dessins d'identification en particulier sur des genres difficiles comme les Grimpars ou les Tyrannidés associée au fait que mâles et femelle sont systématiquement dessinés, avec même parfois des dessins d'oiseaux en vol, en font le meilleur guide en Amérique du sud.
Seul bémol, les textes sont trop pauvres, on est loin de la richesse des textes écris par Hilty dans "Birds of Venezuela".

EYEWITNESS TRAVEL GUIDES are the best guides you could find. I've bought every one they have published to the places I have visited, and always know where I want to go and what are the most important places to visit,
with the pictures and 3D images of the buildings and maps I don't get surprises as to visit a place not worth while. You optimize your travel time. I have about twenty of their guides, just hope they increase the places they review in the near future.
I'm from Mexico and found it very useful.

Basically the layout and info is good, though some important stuff was outdated,ie current location of the terminal terrestre (bus station) in Quito (This created some testy, but fun conversation with the taxi driver). One thing to beware of---the map symbols and numbers are miniscule. Granted, I am 50 andy eyesight isn't what it used to be. But if there is any one most important info in a travel guide,it's the maps. Grow it please.
Nice size overall for lightwgt travel.
Narratives on history and background just right.

I bought both Lonely Planet and Moon to be able to get a nice perspective on my trip to Costa Rica. Unfortunately the Moon handbook was not as useful as Lonely Planet. In fact, by the middle of the trip I buried this book at the bottom of my backpack. The only thing I found useful in Moon's guide was its maps. Other than that, I would stick with purchasing Lonely Planet.

I would imagine that most visitors to the Galapaos are not naturalists. For those without a strong background in natural sciences, I would highly recommend this book. The book is easy and fun to read, detailed without being tedious. The photos are amazing and the author's passion for the islands is evident. If you only have time to read one book, this is one I would advise a Galapagos visitor to read in advance of their trip.

When I bought this, I was expecting something a bit more substantial. It is literally a small laminated pamphlet. However, I think it is useful to have (in addition to a more extensive field guide-type wildlife book). It's much more convenient to use for quick identification than trying to whip out a big book on a hike. I also like that it's durable and laminated. I do plan to use this on my trip, but this would also be a good resource for kids to use also.
