National Geographic is well known by the quality of their maps & their awesome photography; and this travel guidebook it's no exception. It's very informative without being too in depth. The pictures makes you feel like you're there (in my opinion). This one can complement the Moon's guidebook which focus is just the opposite. Well put together. Highly recommended.

I live in Panama and have bought each of the Lonely Planet Panama books as they have come out. This edition seems to have less information than the last one. In my town, Volcán, there are about 10 places to sleep; six were listed in the previous edition, but just one in this book - and the one shown is an odd, out-of-the-way place offering large cabins for extended families.

I wonder if I can trust Lonely Planet to give me the information I've come to trust them for. I will look at other guides more carefully as options to LP for my other travels.

This is so well-written it is a good read from cover-to-cover. I consider it the best Baja guidebook on Amazon and second only to the AAA guidebook. This is one of the very few that I would consider a must-have on a trip to Baja. Tons of current, factual information and recommendations.

I found this book only really useful for mammals. I had to supplement this book for amphibians, reptiles, and especially for birds. I found it is really only good for 'popular species' of the non-mammals. If you are a casual naturalist and only want to bring one book, it is ok, but if you trying to really id a lot of organisms and add to your life-list, this isn't a great book.

Just purchased the other day, "Historias de Mexico" is the first book I've read in the Spanish language. After having read the first story "El Sol y La Luna," I felt such a mark of satisfaction and accomplishment. Even though the stories are short and most finish with a "thud," or a dull ending, the cultural value and stories are good enough. However after reading several stories, the initial charm waned-off completely.

The real beauty, at least for the student, lies in the rapid learning of new words and phrases and the recognition of verb conjugation [this especially has helped me to see more clearly the differentiation of the Past Definite (Preterite) and Imperfect (and past continuous) in action.] Plus, the book does build confidence ... This book is a very comrehensive look at the culture & people of Ecuador. It is written like a travel guide giving an inside look into different locations & the people living there. This book would an enjoyable read even for people who are not planning on traveling to Ecuador.

Yes, B.A. is in the southern hemisphere, but why are north and south not in the usual positions on this map? For someone used to having north at the top this is confusing, disorienting, and makes the map less than useful. Would suggest a different map with the coordinates you are used to.

One of my favorite genres of books is true-life survival tales. After deliberately searching for a new read, I found "Jungle". Jungle is the story of a young Isreali backpacker who falls in with a Swiss guy, a German guide and an American who decide to go on an adventure through the Bolivia. At one point, the group becomes separated and the story follows the Isreali as he struggles to survive in the rainy season in the Bolivian jungle.

The book is very interesting - you get glimpses of life as a backpacker/tourist floating through South America, a look at rural life in Bolivia, and raw survival from the narrator. I couldn't put the book down. It is a little gruesome/graphic at points, so all readers may not be tempted, but an overall great read.
