Informative book with lots of good suggestions and directions. It is catered to a "high-end" traveller though. I found better deals by consulting other guidebooks and just wandering around.

I found this book only really useful for mammals. I had to supplement this book for amphibians, reptiles, and especially for birds. I found it is really only good for 'popular species' of the non-mammals. If you are a casual naturalist and only want to bring one book, it is ok, but if you trying to really id a lot of organisms and add to your life-list, this isn't a great book.

I bought this because I wore out the old copy I had and it was a little out of date. This book is so valuable to cyclist up and down the coast that they simply refer to it as "The book". While I did notice some inaccurate information, specifically, the book mentions that there is no camping on Hornby Island while I stayed in a huge campground there, It is mostly accurate as I read it cover to cover upon receipt to relive my last ride from Powell River BC to Seattle. This book is indispensable for anyone considering cycling any part of the coast from Canada to Mexico. Don't leave home without it!

National Geographic did a wonderful job with this map. Very attention to detail not only in the topographic map itself, but it's also loaded with pictures & information regarding the regions of the country. There's also a smaller map of Panama City, but not as detail as the rest of the map. Very colorful - expected for National Geographic anyway. Even main highways are included. Very well put together; it definetly complements their travel book. Highly recommended!!!

I just got back from my trip to Peru and I purchased the 2008 edition to have the most up to date tourist information about Peru. This book was very helpful, as well as the blogs and forums in the Frommer's website. However, I was dissapointed to find that even though this was the latest edition the prices published for a lot of the things were already obsolute or not completely accurate which sort of threw off our budget for the trip. One good example is the "boleto turistico" that can be purchased in Cusco to visit a lof of the tourist attractions around the area. The book published a cost of S/70 and it actually cost S/130 per person. Unfortunately prices for turist attractions and transportation have gone up drastically in Peru. It was just unfortunate ... Lonely Planet should be ashamed to put their name on this effort. Why did they even bother putting out a book on Colombia without more comprehensive information?

This book contains very little accomodation information for Barranquilla, Cartagena, and the "coffee country" of Colombia.
There are not enough accomodation details for major cities other than Bogota.


There doesn't seem to be too much updated here at all!

Lonely Planet should be ashamed to put their name on this effort. Why did they even bother putting out a book on Colombia without more comprehensive information?

For my five-week journey through Brazil (Sept/Oct 2007) I took three guides (Lonely Planet, Footprint and Frommer's) and Frommer's has the most positive qualities. This review refers to the 2006 edition.

Frommer's Brazil 2006 opens with "What's New in Brazil." This is a store house of information, especially if you are a frequent traveler to Brazil. New hotels and resorts are popping up throughout Brazil and if you can go to these spots before they become well known then you are apt to get great prices and better service. Another section that is excellent is "The Best of Brazil" where the BEST of everything is selected: "Best Beaches," "Best Experiences," "Best Wildlife," "Best Views," "Best Nightlife," on and on.

I have lived in Guatemala City now for 7 months. I recently spent a couple of weeks in Antigua and found the information in the Rough Guide (2006) about restaurants, cafes and things to see to be out of date and not complete. I saw a review from another person that said the danger warnings were too strong. I am glad that person had a safe trip, but regardless, Guatemala is dangerous. The criminals won't hesitate to shot a person if they resist giving up money or valuables. Don't let that stop you from visiting, as many come here with no problems. Most of the crimes are target of opportunity so be a smart traveler. That said, I found this book to have a good layout.

This was a very usable and serviceable guide in to Yucatan travel. If offers quite a detailed description on the region's history and culture from those who would know it best. If you're looking for guide through part of Mexico's heritage this is a good guide to take with you.
