This is a great guide for anyone that is interested in visiting the places tourists would miss. I've encountered numerous eateries and taverns touted by the locals but overlooked by the casual visitor, and most of these have been highly enjoyable. The most notable downside is that it is so comprehensive, meaning that since this particular guide covers the entire U.S. and Candada you will not find much on places like Gainesville, Florida (bustling college town) or Bangor, Maine (quaint hideaway). But if you do intend on visiting various areas in the U.S. and Canada, I would highly recommend it. I've found this guide worth the cost for the Chicago area alone.

I am 17 years old and I just got back from four months in Europe by myself. It was my first time out of the country and I would have died or gone broke without this book. I never found a day when I didn't know what to do and I always found a place to stay (and cheeply I might add). This is perfect for a student or buget traveler. I was able to travel for 4 monthe on $2,500 with all the money I saved. It also made traveling by bus and train very easy and has tons of travel deals. It is much better than lonely planet which didn't list as many places to stay. Oh, it also has great, cheep pubs and student hang outs, and fesivals.

This book is great, especially if you will be in Great Britain studying abroad. It gives all of the student budget places to crash, eat, etc. The recommendations for places Scotland and Wales were especially wonderful and without flaws. Stick with the "Let's Go" special recommendations (indicated with a thumb symbol) and YOU ARE SET! A friend and I used it all year for weekend after weekend of great trips.
