I really like this book. It is a wonderful way to educate kids (and adults will enjoy it as well) about love, compassion, and respect for animals.

We need to teach our kids while they are young, to treat animals the way that they themselves would want to be treated.

What we sow in our children today, animals will reap tomorrow.

So if we want to end animal abuse, animal cruelty, animal murder (euthanizing healthy animals) etc, in the future, it will ONLY happen, if we teach our kids TODAY, that animals are living, breathing, feeling, loving, soul-filled children of God, just like we human animals are.

I am planning a trip to New Zealand and have been absorbing as much information as possible before I go. I have seen several guide books and this is the first and only one I have seen that is set up for a budget traveler. Most of the guides list their $ (supposedly budget) meals at less than $30, this book has it's cheapest listed as under $7 and the expensive stuff listed over $25. Not everyone who travels makes $100,000+ a year :)
It also has heaps of extra information about traveling to NZ and travel in general. Information on passports, visas, safety, health, history, etc. All of the authors are people who have traveled to New Zealand, rather than living there, so you get an angle from the traveler's perspective more than from the usual ... This book is amazing and unlike any other travel book I've seen. It is geared toward students and young independent travelers and those who really want to get immersed in the culture of the country/area they are traveling to. It focuses on doing things cheaply (but safely) so that you can still have an amazing trip regardless of your budget. This adds to the books overall goal because staying in hostels and B&Bs will allow you to meet more people and learn more about the country you are in. One thing I really like about this book is that it tells you what you absolutely must do/try based on how long you will be in the country, so even if it is a short trip, you can maximize your time there. I bought several books on Costa Rica, including the popular Lonely Planet edition, but this has become my favorite. I'm in my mid-20s and will be going to Costa Rica on a budget and have found that this books fits my needs the best. It not only lists details on hotels, campsites, hostels, restaurants and bars, it also lists details such as where you can access internet resources or get your laundry done. There are details on nightlife such as the types of crowds you can find at the local bars and clubs. It's the kind of information that only a local usually knows, stuff you cannot usually find in your typical travel book. I travel to PR frequently for my job. I like to always have a guidebook with me in case I have a new person with me or venture somewhere new. I bought the Let's Go because my most recent Lonely Planet guide was 4 years old (too old for a guidebook) and the new one wasn't coming out until mid-summer. The Let's Go book was a disappointment. The information is insufficient, poorly organized, etc. For example, in the sections about Culebra and Vieques (places I love to visit), it fails to mention how to get to the ferry dock in Fajardo from San Juan - you either need to drive there and park (and finding the dock is NOT easy in Fajardo as putting up helpful signs is not something PR does well), or you can take a publico (they do tell you where the station is in SJ) but this ... The Let's Go series is fun and irreverently informative. The Australia guide offers many budget insights and interesting facts about this great country.
I have found that the Let's Go books definitely cater well to the rough backpacker, but if you're faint of heart or looking for any fancy frills, this book is not for you.

Normally, I would have bought Lonely Planet, but their Thailand book was almost 3 years old, so I went with the more recently published Let's Go. I have never been a fan of Let's Go, but was surprised by how useful this book turned out. It's coverage of the country is less inclusive than Lonely Planet, so it is only really useful for short-term touring of the country. My trip was only 2 weeks long, which was fine for this book. It is printed on very lightweight paper, so the book itself is probably half the weight of the LP guidebook.

While Lonely Planet remains the best source for encyclopedic information such as population sizes for cities, it rarely provides very much opinion. This Let's Go book filled in that gap, providing frank, fair critiques of the ... Read More:

In college I did a lot of backpack traveling and always took Let's Go. Although my budget isn't as tight these days I still wanted to have it for our Hawaii trip. It has a lot of useful information and is definately worth the cost of the book. There are things I would have surely missed without it. On the flip side, Let's Go is designed for the youthful, free spirited traveler on a budget, so keep this in mind when endeavoring out on a hike marked by the book as "challenging." Make sure you are in good shape. Also, if you have a little extra money to spend, just hit a brochure stand for bundles of extra attractions and you might want a mapbook. The maps in Let's Go are good for some locales, but you might want an atlas or GPS for others.

As usual, Let's Go has written an excellent guide for the city you need. Especially, it is filled with $ saving tips and side trips -- no $200 a night hotels wasting half of the book.

Most importantly, though, Amsterdam is a special city. The governmental tolerance there (even if you do not choose to partake in the famous vices of this flowing canal metropolis) can be felt. For me, I was both happy and sad. Happy to be in a place where it is legal to do almost anything as long as you are not hurting anybody. Sad because part of me wonders how much my inner self has been diminished by growing up in a relatively fascist state.
