My sister and I visited Israel for 2 weeks in June and I bought this book and she bought the Lonely Planet guide. After a few days we realized my book had better information, the details were more accurate, and it was generally more useful. If you only want to buy one book, at this point in time I'd recommend the Let's Go over the lonely planet.

I ordered Let's Go San Francisco to guide me on a two week 'skim' of that city. My granddaughter and I roamed the city with Let's Go in hand and found delights we would never have discovered without it, e.g. the seals near Fisherman's Wharf, the aforementioned tango lessons, the shops and cafes on Polk Street, how to get to City Lights Bookstore. When I needed to consult a doctor I found a travelers' clinic in Let's Go.
My advice to travellers - DON'T LEAVE HOME WITHOUT IT.

The first of many Lets Go guides I've bought. I used this book like a bible when I was in California. Great maps and great advice on where to go. Hollywood Blvd has great places to eat, you can skip Musso & Frank's (wasn't what it used to be back in the day). Try the Pig N' Whistle, the best chicken soup I've ever had! This guide book has great vintage shopping ideas and free places to visit. I stayed at the USA Hostel and it was wonderful (minus the post office bells in the morning). With the help of the hostel & this guide book I went everywhere by bus, subway and foot (you really shouldn't walk in LA its not like NYC, the blocks are longer and the sun is more intense, get a bike or wait for the bus or rent a car)

I took Let's Go 2007 Western Europe along with Party Europe guidebooks during my trip last month and my time overseas was unbelievable. With this combination I found cheap hostels and hotels, raging party spots and knew exactly what I would be spending. You can't have one without the other.

Overall, Let's Go Central America was not as good of a guide book as the Lonely Planet counterpart. One, the book simply contains fewer maps, even in relatively big cities along the gringo trail. This makes it difficult to get around many cities (if depending solely on this book). Moreover, there were more inaccuracies concerning the location of restaurants, guesthouses, etc. than the lonely planet book. For example, in Granada, Nicaragua, we found that a restaurant was on a different street than the one stated in the book.

For most of the trip, we referred mostly to our Lonely Planet (which had superior maps - even though criticized by many) for the above reasons. We unloaded this thing in a used bookstore.

This book lacks some serious items, such as maps! The Lonely Planet guide is far superior.

Lets Go guides are great! I love the side notes. This is strictly Oregon, Washington and Northwestern parts of Canada. I didn't have this guide when I went to the Pacific Northwest. Now I have and I look forward to sharing it with others and keeping it to use when I go back to explore again on a budget. A side note I'd love to write is the BEST cookie bakery in Pioneer Square on 1st Ave - Cow Chip Cookies. Go and enjoy an original drop cookie.

We are planning a trip to Ireland this summer and I purchased this book because the "Let's Go Ireland" book was over a year old. The "Ireland" portion of this book consists only of a chapter about Northern Ireland and a 14-page chapter about Dublin. I wanted to comment not on the quality of the book, but rather on the misleading way Amazon (or the Publisher) has the book listed. If you are wanting information about Ireland, purchase something else.

I used this book in Europe. Although I found a few good Internet cafes by using this book, finding historical places is often very difficult because there's no pictures of the buildings it refers to. Also, don't believe the prices stated for a lot of the places. It would make a world of difference, if its topics were supplemented by pictures to give a clearer understanding and find places a lot easier. The maps in this book are horrible. You can get lost by relying on them alone.

Let's Go may not be as comprehensive as Lonely Planet but ATLEAST the info is up to date. The Phone numbers work 99% of the time and the prices etc are accurate. I've done Mexico, Central America and Europe with Let's go and it really the best one if you have to pick. If you are willing to lug it around, the ultimate is to take both Let's Go and Lonely Planet. Though a couple of pounds adds up on your back. Ultimately Let's Go is in my opinion the best choice!
