.Blindness (Harvest Book) City Travel Guides > Books > Literature and Fiction by: Jose Saramago October 04, 1999 Enjoyed the novel, in no way does the story knock the blind or say they are incapable...as protesters have been saying. In fact there is a part in the story where a blind individual who was blind prior to the incident proves to be most useful. The ending I feel was very lacking and incomplete. .Me Talk Pretty One Day City Travel Guides > Books > Literature and Fiction by: David Sedaris June 05, 2001 Before reading this book, I very much thought from the title (and because at the time I did not know who David Sedaris is)that it would be a "heart wrenching tale" about some child who is physically unable to speak or doesn't have access to a decent education. It was one of those books I meant to get to someday, but probably never would. Finally someone clued me in. I read it in a day. Sedaris's short stories are the funniest I've ever read. He draws on recollections of his own family to give us realistic visions of family and personal life in all their "rolling on the floor laughing" complexity. .Fight Club: A Novel City Travel Guides > Books > Literature and Fiction by: Chuck Palahniuk October 03, 2005 For those of you who have never seen the movie, this book is a disturbing portrait of a narrator who begins to express his natural instincts and, before he realizes it, is terrified by what he has become a part of, leading up to a twist that you never saw coming. For those of you that have seen the movie, yes, it does translate well into book form. There is much more psychological introspection and more recurrence of themes (such as the line "look up into the stars and you're gone"). There is also a bit of an extended ending that wraps things up nicely. Overall, the book is a challenging read, but ultimately very satisfying.
