As I have always found in Lonely Planet Guide books, the Lonely Planet guide to Scotland is well researched and contains lots of useful information. We plan to hike the West Highland Way over the Summer of 2009 and this Lonely Planet Guide to Scotland has lots of good information about hotels and restaurants along the way. I highly recommend this book!

I live in Panama and have bought each of the Lonely Planet Panama books as they have come out. This edition seems to have less information than the last one. In my town, Volcán, there are about 10 places to sleep; six were listed in the previous edition, but just one in this book - and the one shown is an odd, out-of-the-way place offering large cabins for extended families.

I wonder if I can trust Lonely Planet to give me the information I've come to trust them for. I will look at other guides more carefully as options to LP for my other travels.

We got this new Lonely Planet guide just in time for our 2 week vacation last May and I can assure you : we extensively visited the Salento region, the beautiful Valle d'Ittre with the fairytale-like 'trulli' and Basilicata Matera with its 'sassi'
and always we had full and correct information about what to see, where to eat, visiting hours, etc. This guide together with Michelin map n°564 is all you need to make your visit to this part of Italy an unforgettable experience as it was for us !

With international travel booming, the travel book industry churns out books like this, short on historical perspective, long on mother hen nagging, and eager to show political correctness at every turn. Worst of all is the hype. When are these people going to figure out that we buy the book because we're Going To The Country? We don't have to be Sold On The Country. Let me now join the international call for a moratorium on the following words in travel books: vibrant, boasts, awesome, enjoy, proudly.

LONELY PLANET ALBUQUERQUE, SANTA FE, AND TAOS is a great book on the rugged northern section of New Mexico. The three cities the book focuses on each have their own charms, especially Santa Fe, with its live-and-let-live attitude providing for healthy ethnic diet ideas that will be useful for anyone who's trying to look good for their favorite actor or actress. Other ways to achieve that dream, such as hiking and bicycling in the mountains surrounding these three cities, are also discussed, as are shopping opportunities and radio stations. Overall, this book is a wonderful addition to any travel library.

This is one of the few guide books I have read and not had to buy others for the same country by other authors/publishers. A guide book is just that - a "guide", and nothing should be considered set in stone. The content is wide-ranging, appears to be thorough, and covers most of the places I will be visiting in the fall. I am wearing the pages thin from constant reading, and still find it very interesting and informative. Great book!

Writing a review of a travel guide that one has not yet used presents fundamental difficulties in judging the usefulness, accuracy, and validity of the information given. Nonetheless, I have lots of experience using guides and, further, I have the 2007 edition of Hilary Bradt's Madagascar book to compare with the Lonely Planet publication. To begin with, the Lonely Planet guide is of a smaller format and shorter in length than Bradt. It covers an additional subject, the Comoros. The net effect is a more surface treatment of the sights and regions of the country, but a heavy emphasis on such practical aspects as where to stay and eat and how to get around. this guide is very helpful, with lots of great things to see, and usually from the description i could tell if it was something i wanted to see or skip, although there were some sites that I wondered why they were included, because they were not so interesting after i got there and i would not have made the special effort to go there if i had really known what it was. i found food and restaurants less helpful, because i usually ate in whatever area i was, not making special plans to go to a different area of the city to eat when travel is such a hassel. the maps at the back of the book are invaluable, although the outstretching areas are not included, and are often not included on guide maps either. the book also mentions that certain measurements and ...
