. Bulgarian Phrasebook
City Travel Guides > Books > Lonely Planet
by: Ronelle Alexander
April 01, 2008
I generally love Lonely Planet books, so was a bit disappointed with this one. It's good as a quick reference guide, but nothing much more. It doesn't have very much background or history about some of the area's most important places. If you're going to buy only one book before traveling to the Baltics, choose the Rough Guide instead - we ended up using it almost exclusively towards then end of our trip. Also, the hotels/accommodations selection in this edition is very poor.

. Central Europe (Multi Country Guide)
City Travel Guides > Books > Lonely Planet
by: Paul Smitz
February 01, 2007
This is well written, like most most Lonely Planet country guides. I read through the pertinent sections for countries I was planning to visit, and while there were suggestions for each major city, there was little depth. Maps are also on the skimpy side. "Central Europe" may not be representative of the several regional Europe guides Lonely Planet has recently released, but its coverage is very brief for a number of countries. For example, "Central Europe" has fewer pages devoted to the entire CZ Republic than the CZ Republic guide has devoted to Prague alone.
So this guide may serve you well if you are on a driving or backpacking vacation without having done a lot of background research; you could pull it out to see the one-paragraph ... Read More:

. Perth & Western Australia (Regional Guide)
City Travel Guides > Books > Lonely Planet
by: Terry Carter, Lara Dunston
May 01, 2007
In general, Western Australia still seems to be off the usual tourist path for most outside visitors to Australia, so there wasn't much selection when it came to finding an appropriate guidebook. For the most part, guides seemed to be too broad (covering all of Australia), or too specific (focusing just on Perth). Despite being an absolutely enormous place on its own, few choices seemed to address the state of WA.
We picked this book up out of desperation, but for the most part, it did a decent enough job. In typical Lonely Planet style, there were lots of budget options for food/accommodation and plenty of details on tours and logistics. Most of the information appeared to be accurate, and a few tips proved quite helpful.
My biggest qualm ... Read More:

. Lonely Planet Belgium & Luxembourg
City Travel Guides > Books > Lonely Planet
by: Gert Cole, Leanne Logan
June 21, 2007
All in all, in my 3 years living in Belgium, I found this a really helpful guide book. Prices are always wrong in guidebooks, but I found the contact information (web, address, phone) nearly always right, and the descriptions accurate.
You will be very challenged to find another guidebook that has this level of coverage of Belgium in its entirety, as most seem to focus on Brussels, Gent, Bruges, and perhaps Antwerp. Belgium seems to typically be an afterthought on most tourists' itineraries.
I really enjoyed the author's picks, both hotels and restaurants. What can I say to the other reviewer where the hotel unfortunately cancelled their booking because they found a group that would pay them more? Is that the authors' fault? No, welcome ... Read More:
