Like other reviewers have said, this book has some useful information in it, but many many inaccuracies as well. The maps are generally not helpful and some of the locations in the book no longer exist. Besides this, almost every subway exit direction in the book that I tried to use was wrong ... often the exact opposite exit of what was actually the right one.

If you just use the book for ideas on things to do and places to go, then its a very useful reference. Using it for anything more, though, will probably lead to frustration.

The lonely planet helped as as always to plan our vacation. We spend only one week in this interesting country, but managed to plan an interesting and packed two day trip. Instead of booking through the hotel and spending at least $250 per person we took all the information out of the book. Besides saving some money, we had a lot of information and explored the country a lot better than with a pre booked trip. As the book is from 2006 some of the prices have already increased. I can highly recommend this book to anyone who likes to plan his trip on his own and/or wants background information on history, culture and people.

This was a very usable and serviceable guide in to Yucatan travel. If offers quite a detailed description on the region's history and culture from those who would know it best. If you're looking for guide through part of Mexico's heritage this is a good guide to take with you.

This book is a big disappointment. I thought it would be filled with maps and diagrams of the places discussed. Nope. Just a couple of very basic maps and I do mean basic. Much of the information appears to be out-of-date and there are many omissions in the Roatan section so I am guessing the same goes for the rest of the book. The parts that I did read were so boring and generic that I really couldn't get more than a few pages in each section. Yeah, it has some nice color photos in the front of the book. But I could have gotten that elsewhere. BIG disappointment.

I spent six weeks in May and June 2008 backpacking around Southeast Asia, and this was my primary guidebook. Overall, I found it to be helpful for the macro-level stuff: planning my itinerary, getting a general overview of each country's history, and budgeting.

I give it three stars, however, because although it's unreasonable to expect it to be as in-depth as the individual guidebooks for Vietnam, Cambodia, and Laos, I often found that the authors omitted useful listings for lodging, places to eat, and sites that were included in other books.

If you plan on taking only one guidebook for VN, KH, and LA, this is a good choice. (Another option is Moon, but at the time of my trip it was even more out-of-date than the LP guide.) Just keep ... Read More:

Being a travel junky I found this guidebook very valuable. Some points:

1. It has color maps all located in the same place (back of the book). On the backside of each map is an index with a page reference! So you see the map, you flip and find the attraction/restaurant/whatever, and you go to the referenced page for more info. This is invaluable since the last thing I like doing is flipping through maps embedded throughout a book only to not get any information on what's around me.

2. Did I mention the maps? There is also a subway map overlay on each map so you can plan getting there and getting back. There's also a complete map at the very back.

This book and the map was all we needed for our trip to Switzerland. The book has all sources of information - places to see, restaurants, transportation tips, etc. In Geneva and Bern, we followed the walking tours suggested in the book, and we were able to see all major attractions in 2 hrs. For some interesting places to see, the book just provides a brief description, but also gives a website link (when available) for more information, which is very helpful. I would definitely buy another book from Lonely Planet for my future trips.

This is my second LP guidebook and it's another great one. It offers great advice, fascinating history, and leads you to some of the best restaurants and sites in the country. It also has great maps. Take an LP everywhere you travel especially if it's a place that is not very touristy ( like Ethiopia)
