I just finished reading Dr. Barnard's book and I'm reading it a second time! I found his book informative and explained in easy to understand terms. I think he makes a very good case for reasons not to continue eating a meat-based diet as the effects of a high fat animal diet lead to many of the popular illnesses and diseases we read about today (e.g., diabetes, stroke, heart attack, etc.)

I was not a vegan or vegetarian before reading this book and I know that some reviewers may think there is too much of a vegan agenda, but I would disagree. I had high hopes for The Migraine Brain after seeing Dr. Bernstein on the Today show. She talked about the brain of someone with migraines being different than others. This topic she does cover well in her book; Chapter 2, The Migraine Brain - How It's Different and What That Means for You contains useful information I hadn't read anywhere else before.
However, what was disappointing is that she states on pages 15-16 that migraine is a chronic illness, meaning you cannot get rid of it. Not only is this not true, many people have recovered from migraine, but on the dustcover of the book itself is a quote from Dr. Christiane Northrup where she refers to herself as a FORMER migraine sufferer. I will admit, I tried it at first to lose the weight. What I didn't know that my mood would change within the first few days. I was happier than ever, more energized than ever and felt healthy. I have Multiple Sclerosis, and I have to say, no drug a doctor will give me to feel the energy to wake in the morning compares to the Master Cleanse. I was on the Master Cleanse for a total of 14 days... I also lost almost 20lbs. When I started, I didn't think I would make it to day 3, but I didn't want to stop! I have read probably half-a-dozen organizing books, and this one has the most readable, usable format of any I've seen. Let's face it, many of the people who have trouble with organizing have elements of ADD, if not full-blown, diagnosed ADD. This book offers lots of suggestions on ways to look at and tackle organizing tasks, and while organizing will always be a challenge for some of us, the tools offered will make it more accessible. One thing that I wish was covered in more depth is the tendency to hoard.

I'm a Mental Health Counselor whose copy of this book is well worn. I recommend this book for anyone who is considering doing skills training for persons with problems in the following areas:
1) Problems related to control of attention. This could include anything from difficulty concentrating to dissociative behavior.
2) Problems with balance in relationships. Usually this involves teaching clients how to get other people to take them seriously. It can also involve teaching clients how to consider other people's needs in relationships. Often it's both.
3) Problems with severe painful emotions.
4) Problems with impulse control.

This book condenses down large drug books into something that can be quickly used. This book is so worn on the pediatric unit I am doing clinicals on it looks like a book 20 years old. How it works is it gives you safe doses for meds for children. All you need to do is figure out the kg weight and then the med dose is described per kg.

The other gem of the book is the diagnosis section in the front. It contains color photos of skin disorders. Has helpful charts & diagrams. If you are in the medical field and will ever have a child as a patient you cannot do wrong with this great pocket guide.

I have purchased several books on thyroid, regarding hyperthyroid, hypothyroid, graves eye disease, hashimotos thyroid and more. Although they all have very good information, NONE of them gave me the information I wanted/needed regarding this consistent weight gain that I am having! My doctor does not see it as a problem. I need to keep purchasing larger clothing, and have lost my confidence in the way I look and feel. It affects who I am. Some articles or websites say, you now have an oppportunity to experience a new look. Well, I liked the old one just fine, thank you.
