I pay $20.00 for a brochure on a $68,000.00 treatment program not funded by any insurance company offering a gaggle of techniques that do not appear to be algorithmically integrated... when I could simply buy a few -other- books on amazon.com to see the statistical evidence on the most effective treatment regimens. Hmm. This is tough. I rarely make blanket statements like this, but after 22 years in the field and working with a -wide- variety of approaches (from 12 Step, gestalt and hypnotic to cognitive, pharmacologic and psychodynamic), I'm forced to say, "Enjoy the book, but keep your credit cards in your wallet." I can count using the fingers of one hand the number of books I have read on the subject that are worth their weight in cotton candy. This work by the Sommers-Flanagan duo represents an excellent addition to the instructional literature on the fine art of interviewing. The additional color pictures, illustrates, and upgraded tables within the chapter topics provides the reader a overview of a wealth of information. The regional and diagnose specific functional measurement/assessment tests are helpful for clinical outcome measurement data. Chapter four presents an outstanding overview of TMJ examination for an example. The chapter Appendixes with the reliability, validity, specificity, and sensitivity of special/diagnostic tests are helpful. Colomb 2003-03 This has been an extremely helpful resource for framing and developing a good research paper. It takes the reader step-by-step through the process of finding a topic of interest, narrowing that topic into a question, making that question relevant to a wider audience, then moving to researching that question, developing arguments, and putting those arguments into a coherent structure. The authors have set up the book so that it can either be read through cover to cover or used as a reference guide for particular sections. For students beginning their first research papers, this is an exceptionally helpful book to make a daunting task much more manageable.
