This short book contains so many tidbits of treasure. One of my favorites is asking a client who cries what his tears would say if they could speak. I think this book offers something of value whether you are a beginning therapist or a seasoned professional. This book was incredibly helpful in understanding Lyme history. To answer the question of why doctors debate over this. Because of this book, I knew what to do to help my daughter. So far, my daughter is recovering beautifully. The book was very compelling and well written, always a help when you are studying a meaty topic.

The electronic version of the PDR is more convenient than hauling a huge book around, however you should be aware that the CD-ROM "expires" and will cease to function after about a year. This "auto destruct" function is supposedly to protect against the risks of using outdated information, however it seems as likely it is in place to ensure a revenue stream for Thomson publishing; all the printed PDRs obviously don't disintegrate into dust a year after publication.

One plus side however, the CD-ROM includes much more information than the printed book including:

The PDR Main Edition (the main volume, what most people mean when they say "PDR")
The PDR for Nonprescription Drugs, Dietary Supplements, and Herbs

Gittleman has done the world a huge favor by stressing the importance of detoxification in order not only to lose weight, but also to have health in general. This is something raw foodists have known for a century. Unfortunately, she doesn't go into cooked food as a source of additional toxins. Nonetheless she has done her homework in finding all kinds of tips for detox, such as herbs and lemon juice.
I got lots of weight loss nuggets from this book, and various insights that helped me shed 20 pounds. (This is one of a dozen or so books I used for research.) I was astounded to discover that flaxseeds can be toxic if you eat over 4 T a day (not true for flax oils)! That information alone was worth the price of the book! That pearl of advice alone ... This book is great. I now realize what my problem was when I was younger. Everything is finally making sense. It is a great book for people that have ADD people as friends, family and partners to learn what the life is like for a person dealing with ADD.
Really glad I purchased the book. You should too.

This is the best book on Co-dependence I have ever read. And I have read a few. And Pia Melody does it without any put downs. Co-Dependence is not something you can choose or not choose to do. It is a result of things that have been done to you. And you cannot begin to conquer it until you fully understand what happened to you. This Pia Melody does with such insight and understanding solely because she lived it. If you or someone you know is dealing with co-dependency (and most of us are) do them a favor and tell them to get this book!

My family and I are missionaries living in E. Africa. I am a registered nurse in the U.S. so I do have medical training, yet here in Africa I have turned to (the older version of this book) many times. I have turned to this book for ringworms, scabies, malaria, medication, birth control options, infant malnutrition, etc. A lot of teaching to the local people, and plan to do much more. This book is easy to read, and a great reference. I did not give it a 5 start b/c for some reason (the older version of this book)not sure about the latest one, but it uses the word shi* for the word stools, or poop. And I can see how someone who does not have medical training could try some of the procedures in the book (ex. circumcision) and end up doing more harm than good. So that is my ... Read More:

For the school-trained psychologist or Psy.D., FLA may be flawed by post-millennial standards, but not very. Though a first-rate clinician, Mellody seems not to care about "conflicting attachment schemes," "dissociative identity" or "borderlne personality organization." Much of what professionals have been taught about the etiology of identity enmeshment really doesn't matter to the lay reader.

Mellody sees the common, seducer-rejector flip-flopping in the love addicts and love avoidants who are usually one and the same person, but does not emphasize it to the extent many others do (see Benjamin, Bockian, Kluft, Linehan, Gunderson, Mason, Masterson, Millon, Preston, Putnam, and Stone).
