This little book describes not just the historic Temple(s), but also how Christians and Muslims have perceived the Temple.

By and large, I already was aware of much of what this book says about the Temples. However, Goldhill does alter the common chronology slightly- while most commentators speak of the First Temple and the Second Temple, Goldhill suggests that Herod's renovations to the Temple [which include the Western Wall] were so extensive as to create a sort of Third Temple.

I bought this book for our niece who was 28 months old at Chanukah. She loves to have books read to her, but I wanted to get her a book that would "speak" to her, even without a reader. This book does that. I also taped in pictures of my husband and myself visiting some of the same places and doing some of the same things as the child in the book, so that she could see that Israel really is a place that people visit. Our niece enjoys sitting with this book, and looks at everything over and over! On our next trip, we will take more pictures to "add" to this book - at my sister's request.

This is definitely a good learning tool if you are interested in learning Moroccan Arabic. It has helped me a lot for my trip to Morocco. But I bought the Moroccan Phrasebook to go with it and the cd pack already comes with it.

I envy him. I envy his travels and his writing. For me Bouvier writes the best travel novels. It s something different. He doesn't describe the country. he simply lives country's life. Stays somewhere in Anatolia for a month, then suddenly one day decides it is time. Time to go, time to travel.

I took three guides on a three week trip to Croatia in 2006: Lonely Planet, Bradt's, and this one. I used the first two to learn about where to stay and eat. I used the Knopf guide to truly learn about Croatia's amazing natural and cultural offerings.

The authors cover in much greater depth the historical, cultural, natural, and archaeological sites of lovely Croatia than any other guide book. It was an invaluable resource for choosing the best places to go and what to see and visit in the country.

The book itself is a pleasure to use. It's gorgeous, well-designed, illustrated, and written. The maps were superb and the most practical and useful of any of my guide books.

This is an incredible companion to the book everyone should have both. They give you a new and wonderful prospective of the Bible and Gods Holy word. It truly brings it all alive. Once you see the places you have a new way of looking at what you read in the Bible you see the places and they become alive and more real that you ever thought they could be.
