This is an excellent book, in that it anchors and provides a foundation for many similar books about 2012, and the cycle we find ourselves in. Goldberg stays on target throughout the book, with no silly filler material. I was fasinated throughout, and I'm glad he had the courage to write on many contraversial subjects. You go Bruce boy!

It is very rare that you can find such an informative, well-balanced book on Iran. Afshin Molavi's book (the same book is also confusingly titled as "Soul of Iran" in paperback) is an excellent history, travelogue, diary, and collection of dialogues and anecdotes with and about Iranians. This is a rare book that I feel truly gives a fair and balanced presentation of the country and its people. This is neither a repudiation of Islam/glorification of the Shah as most books about Iran seem to be, nor is it a panegyric for Khomeini or justification for the revolution. This is an incredible companion to the book everyone should have both. They give you a new and wonderful prospective of the Bible and Gods Holy word. It truly brings it all alive. Once you see the places you have a new way of looking at what you read in the Bible you see the places and they become alive and more real that you ever thought they could be.

I remember in the 1960's reading the original books (2 volumes) that were published by Howard Carter not long after he had finished cataloguing the extraordinary finds from the tomb. Although all the photographs were in black and white they showed beautiful objects. Objects that increased my love of the Ancient Egyptians. It also aroused an interest in hieroglyphics.

One can get a feel from the book, about what it must have been like to gaze into the confines of a space made by other human beings many centuries ago. To see objects and to wonder about the skill and patience of the people who had made them, sometimes with the most rudimentary equipment and yet we are unable to replicate them in this modern scientific world.
