This travel guide includes a great map and a lot of terrific info on Jordan. I used it on a week-long trip to the country and found it very worthwhile. Jordan has a fascinating history and maybe truly historic and religious sites. This book is a must.

I am an advanced amateur photographer who has been photographing for almost fifty years. On reading "Israel Through My Lens" there is an immediate connection between Mr. Rubingers experiences and those of any serious photographer/photojournalist. Through his remembrances the reader not only relives the history of Israel and the Middle East in the 20th century but also the very simple joy of being a photographer, getting the good shot. This book is more a map, a formal guide what you can find in Istanbul.When your goal is to see as much as possible at the city, this guide is for you.
But if you want to get information about Topkapi palace harem and its habitants, its better to look for more informal guide with stories.
Descriptions of objects are very short, mostly connected to architecture facts and dates. No soul of this big, various and interesting city. Only information.

In June, 2006 my wife and I traveled extensively through all parts of Cyprus by rental car and carried 4 recently published guidebooks. Even with Lonely Planet and DK carrying 2006 copyrights, neither could hold a candle to Rough Guide (Sept, 2005). Marc Dubin's work is not simply that of a traveler writing a guidebook, but like an expert presenting an insightful, informative, and balanced work. It added immensely to our enjoyment and understanding of Cyprus. The highlights section for each chapter provided an excellent overview of each region, and for the first time I found the maps to be even better than the ones in Lonely Planet. This gorgeous book is an asset to any history-lover or Egyptophile's library. The chapters, written on such subjects as Alexandria's kings and queens, and Ptolemaic Art, are informative and accessable, but this book is no beginner's guide to Ptolemaic Egypt, and is very in-depth. While not a picture book, this work includes twenty six gorgeous and rare color photos. Though few, these pictures are extroadinary. The book contains dozens of wonderful black and white photos, and it seems that all the images and visuals in this book aren't simply there for their beauty (though they are amazing) and serve a purpose. The new Bradt Mini Guide to Kabul is a well written insider's view of Kabul. It offers the traveller everything he/she needs to know to survive and enjoy Kabul and its environs, from security concerns to the best espresso cafe. The content is informative and well-organized. The lively prose and diversity of subject matter makes the book a good read, even for the armchair traveller curious about life in this war torn city.

I took three guides on a three week trip to Croatia in 2006: Lonely Planet, Bradt's, and this one. I used the first two to learn about where to stay and eat. I used the Knopf guide to truly learn about Croatia's amazing natural and cultural offerings.

The authors cover in much greater depth the historical, cultural, natural, and archaeological sites of lovely Croatia than any other guide book. It was an invaluable resource for choosing the best places to go and what to see and visit in the country.

The book itself is a pleasure to use. It's gorgeous, well-designed, illustrated, and written. The maps were superb and the most practical and useful of any of my guide books.
