i like this book since it covers all of southern utah. the feature i use most often and like best is the way they rate all the hikes. i do what i can and can't do, how long it will take and whether or not it's appropriate for kids. it also gives useful information such as average temperatures and nearby towns and what they have available such as restaurants, showers, laundry, stores, etc.

First, beware, this book is largely about the towns surrounding Yellowstone. It has 30 pages on Grand Teton, 90 pages on Yellowstone, and 180 pages on areas outside the parks.

The entire Yellowstone section is lumped into one item in the Table of Contents which means that to find say "old faithful" you have to either check the index or flip randomly through the book.

Lastly, the lack of detail was appaling. For example it said only that Canyon has "various stores and eating places." Such as? A place to get a sandwich? A place for a nice dinner? A store with a good selection of camping gear? No way to know until you get there.

Not only does this book contain an immense amount of information about the gorgeous and fascinating state of Nevada---but it is all presented in a personable, idiosyncratic, witty and winning style. As with most guidebooks, you'll probably be interested in reading only those sections relevant to a planned trip. But the book is so informative and fun, you might find yourself---as I did---reading sections about areas in Nevada you have no plans to visit. Highly recommended.

I wrote the first and second editions of Lonely Planet's guidebook to the Dominican Republic. While working on them, I traveled all over the DR. I adhered very closely to this rule: If I didn't visit a place, I didn't write about it. Period. No ifs, ands or buts. As any good guidebook writer would, I traveled with competing guidebooks to make certain I didn't overlook anything the competition reported on. If, for example, the competition mentioned a terrific restaurant on the outskirts of a remote town, I'd be sure to check it out; I simply didn't want my readers to miss out on anything, especially not something appearing in another guidebook. Although it's a little dated now (some of the restaurants in Montreal are now closed), I really enjoyed this guidebook. It provided good insights, history and a selective list of sights and activities. The sidebars and the suggestions for day trips were especially good.

I purchased this book to prepare for our upcoming trip to Inuvik, NWT, Canada. I have found the book to be well written and to have pertinent information in a very readable format. I am looking forward to our trip to see all the things mentioned. The book will be very useful as we will drive through Alberta, NWT, Yukon & British Colombia during our 3 1/2 week trip.

We found this to be an excellent handbook. There were handy maps of each region and fairly comprehensive reviews of things to do both in the major destinations and off the beaten track. For example, on our visit to the Waitomo region we noticed a few nature sites noted on our driving map withoout explanation. Checked the location in the Moon Handbook and discovered memorable side trips we would not have taken otherwise.

I just returned from a week in Cabo and found this book to be hopelessly outdated. On at least four occassions, I took my family in search of restaurants and other attractions featured in the book, only to find they had closed (in some instances, quite some time (even years) ago). And to be clear, I probably only sought out ten places in the book to start with (so we're talking about a 40% hit rate). To me, that is totally unacceptable. By the last two or three days of the trip, we just left the guide in the hotel room. I also found the maps to be difficult to use. I did appreciate some of the narrative in the book.
