I've always enjoyed the eclectic nature of Moon guides and the Florida Gulf Coast guide is no exception. In hind sight I should have looked for an everglades guide but this one sufficed. A lot of the information is now dated because the last year's hurricane season. the biggest problem I ran into was places either being closed or having reduced hours. I also found the organization of the Everglades informations a bit scattered. Still I'd recommend this guide.

Before purchasing this I went to a local bookstore and looked through all the N.O. travel guides. This book outshone the others - it contains lots of great information on N.O. and its surrounding areas. There is a lot of detail and off-the-beaten-path highlights not found in other travel guides. I live on the Northshore of N.O. and through this guide, have discovered places I hadn't heard about before - and that are well worth visiting. Also important to note is that this travel guide seems to be up-to-date on places that are still closed post-Katrina.

The plusses: the book includes a great deal of useful information about the city, its history, and the surrounding areas. The descriptions are well-written and it's clear the author has spent a great deal of time in the city; I didn't go wrong at any of the hotels or restaurants recommended. The list of ways to spend your time in the DF is incredibly detailed, and the chilango slang glossary toward the back is excellent.

Potential cons: the author assumes you will be driving; while this is very useful to anyone who is road tripping, instructions on getting around via Mexico City's extensive public transportation system are occasionally unclear or nonexistent. i like this book since it covers all of southern utah. the feature i use most often and like best is the way they rate all the hikes. i do what i can and can't do, how long it will take and whether or not it's appropriate for kids. it also gives useful information such as average temperatures and nearby towns and what they have available such as restaurants, showers, laundry, stores, etc.

This book is well written. It seems quite complete. I do have to qualify that our trip involved cooking on our own, hiking and a little bicycling, so we didn't avail ourselves of all the other things to do in the park and surrounding areas. I like the layout and the text font. The reference maps are clear.

So far, I had never bought a tourist guide. Maybe it's because I never traveled before just for the pleasure of traveling, for the excitement associated to discovering new people, new places, new cultures. When I decided to spend my week of vacation last August in Charleston, South Carolina, I supposed that, to make the most of it, I should get a guide. I first bought this book a couple of months ago and was really pleased at first. It seemed to give good information on a variety of areas and gave recommendations of things to do that were probably off of the beaten path. Based on the book I drew up a list of the places in Ecuador that I would like to visit and laid the book down for a little bit until I had firmed up my plans some more.

On picking up the book again I started to see some of the glaring errors I had missed in my first reading. There are very few maps of the cities that are spoken of in the book so it doesn't really do you any good to know an address if you have no idea where in the city it is. Being a traveller who usually swears by Lonely Planet guides, I have to admit that when it came down to taking one or the other, the Lonely Planet book stayed at home and this one made it into my backpack. It's just plain good. I will be sure to check out other Moon Guides in the future. Their series might soon be alongside my LP and Footprint Guide collections.

Adequate rather than good, this is no Lonely Planet guide. The structure covering three countries means a significant amount of flipping back and forth to locate information on the country you're currently in. The Siem Reap/Angkor Wat section is particularly confusing, with the practical (hotel, restaurant & general living) information interleaved with the descriptions of the temple complex.

Although published in 2006, much of the political information did not appear to have been updated since approximately 2000.

This book will not encourage me to buy Moon for any of my future travels

I already purchased Moon's Utah and thought I'd get this book, believing it would go into much further detail on the national parks. WRONG! This book is basically a short version of the Utah book, leaving out areas north of the park and duplicating most of the info about the parks that you can find in the larger book. I wish I would have known that so I could have saved my money.
