. Rules of Deception
City Travel Guides > Books > Mystery and Thrillers
by: Christopher Reich
July 15, 2008
The book is an easy read. The quick chapters make it easy to follow. Pretty standard stuff, nothing that sets this book apart from many others. My only concern was the use of a Christian to take the role of the current Iranian President to bring about the "end of the world" by attacking/destroying either Israel or Iran. Author obviously has some personal religious issues that he uses this novel to display. Unfortunate that once again the media, in this case, this book, are used to disparage religious beliefs. Sure there are zealots on both sides. But to make it the main focus of a book. Personally, I was offended.

In Somersett, South Carolina, the sniper needed one shot to assassinate Brigadier General John Jacob. Because of the high visibility of an Army field grade officer murdered in the States, the FBI claims terrorist act means their jurisdiction. FBI agent Caitlin Cavanaugh leads the task force that includes state and local law enforcement.
The team quickly concludes they are dealing with a serial killer whose accuracy denotes military precision of a trained sniper. Former Navy SEAL Quinn McKade is added to the investigative team because of his former military experience as a sniper. The killer sends messages to local TV reporter Valentine Snow that insists the list of victims has just begun. As Cait and her team struggle with the motive ... Read More:

. Plum Boxed Set 4 (10, 11, 12): Contains Ten Big Ones, Eleven on Top, and Twelve Sharp (Stephanie Plum Novels)

by: Janet Evanovich

Janet Evanovich is such a good writer and she "keeps you in stitches" of laughter from the first page until the last one in each book. We have read all of her 14 books in the Plum series and have become familiar with
the characters, which she describes to a T. Grandma Mazur, Lulu, Ranger and her main man, Joe are all real to us and when you get involved in her books in this series it is hard to feel "down" as she is such a funny writer with funny characters. We have Motormouth, and a couple of her other books, but the Plum series is still our favorite.
You keep writing Janet and we will keep buying and reading.

. Strangers in Death (In Death)
City Travel Guides > Books > Mystery and Thrillers
by: J.D. Robb
August 05, 2008
When Eve is called to a homicide on Park Avenue, she finds herself in the bedroom of Thomas Anders, sports fanatic and the head of Anders Worldwide. Sixty-one, he, like his father before him, ran a top enterprise of sporting-goods turned into more; several cities set up to help underprivileged children with sporting-goods to play sports. Unfortunately, Anders's life was cut short. His body was found by his House Manager (housekeeper); each arm and leg tied to either the headboard or footboard with velvet cord, and a velvet cord around his neck. Upon first glance, looks like a lover's tryst gone wrong. But that doesn't sit well with Eve - and her gut instinct was correct. Everything was too clean, made too easy, and once confimed that he'd been drugged, ... Read More:

. Murder Is Binding
City Travel Guides > Books > Mystery and Thrillers
by: Lorna Barrett
April 01, 2008
From time to time when I need some fluff, I enjoy a good cozy mystery. Loving books, bookstores and life in a sleepy New England town, Murder is Binding, by Lorna Barrett, seemed like the perfect book for me. It is the first book in Booktown Mystery Series. I was not disappointed.
Set in fictional Stoneham, N.H., the streets in this town are lined with bookstores (my dream town). Tricia Miles is a mystery bookshop owner, who soon becomes a suspect when a fellow bookstore owner, Doris Gleason is murdered---stabbed to death and a rare cookbook is missing. Determined to clear her name, Tricia, and some other locals help her to try and clear her name.
This was a really fun cozy mystery. The book had quirky characters, was plot driven, ... Read More:

. Silent In The Grave
City Travel Guides > Books > Mystery and Thrillers
by: Deanna Raybourn
December 01, 2007
One of the best opening lines I've read in a long time: "To say that I met Nicholas Brisbane over my husband's dead body is not entirely accurate. Edward, it should be noted, was still twitching upon the floor."
How can you resist reading more? Eventually I found the character of Lady Julia a bit too Victorian and self obsessed for my taste (barging in on an obviously sick man, ignoring his health and demanding that the inquiries keep progressing, ) but despite that lull half way through the book, by the end I was hooked again.
This is a very enjoyable murder mystery set in Victorian London with the death of an Earl and his late wife investigating. However the most intriguing character was that of the detective - Nicholas Brisbane. I hope ... Read More:

. Resolution
City Travel Guides > Books > Mystery and Thrillers
by: Robert B. Parker
June 03, 2008
This is another fine Western - a sequel to Appaloosa. This book is also based upon the typical Western story. A unscrupulous man wants to take over a town. This time Hitch is hired by him as his bar bodyguard. And, then Cole comes around to help Hitch. There is no law in town, so these two and two other gun fighters become the law. But, the man who wants to take over the town hires others who do have the morals. The killing starts, Hitch and Cole come to a recognition that they are working for the wrong man. And, from there the conflict builds to the typical Western climax. Although the book is not as good as Appaloosa, it is a good book and worth the read for any Western reader who misses Louis L'Amour. It appears that Robert Parker has a potential for bringing back ... Read More:
