I usually love long novels because I love to read, and a longer novel allows more time for plot and character development. This is a long novel, but the story could have been told in about half the time to my way of thinking. I didn't like the ending because it left two large issues outstanding. I realize there is another book after this one, but I am certainly not interested enough to wade through another long book to see if some answers are received to what happened in this book. It is also a book where I absolutely disliked the narrator. Rob (Adam) Ryan is not portrayed in a good light in this book. This book was a slower than the other Rhymes books. There was so much computer information in the story. It only got faster and more interesting during the last half of the book. I'm listening to the CD now and find myself going forward on sections of the CD.

i am really surprised by some of the reviews i am reading on amazon and on the internet in general for "odd hours" because in my opinion this was the worst odd thomas book the first scene in the book took about 65 agonizing pages to get through (this is coming from a huge odd thomas/dean koontz fan i loved the first book, the second wasn't bad but not the best and the third was phenomenal) i was really surprised by that because in the first book the first scene was great and i couldn't wait the read the rest of the book because it was fast paced and full of action, it felt like this book wasn't really written by dean koontz but some sort of ghost writer impersonating him. the ending left a lot to be desired and left alot of unanswered questions, i understand ... I am a lover of both the Bliss and Peabody series. This one is a little twisty to suit my taste, and is not up to the standard set by "Night Train to Memphis". I certainly thought the connection between John and the Emmersons could have been more imaginative. I did, however, love the fact that Peters has written herself into the novel. I agree with other who advised reading the prequels first.

As every other book written by John Grisham, "The Appeal" is a fantastic story. I'm a fan of his books, I have read all of them and I'm subjective when commenting on his work, but I have to say that as an educator of Advanced English in Spain, I've used many of his titles to make my students interested in reading and in improving their English language, and up to now, the experience has been extremely successful. I highly recommend this novel to anyone keen on legal thrillers, action and adventure..
