. Odd Hours
City Travel Guides > Books > Mystery and Thrillers
by: Dean Koontz
May 20, 2008
I cannot begin to say how long I have waited for this FOURTH book (having read the others!) and it was WELL WORTH THE WAIT!
The writing flows, and is darn near poetic! Picturesque and wonderful as a story continues and unfolds pages after page.
I read it in 4 days. As usual Koontz never disappoints!
Should you buy it? OF COURSE! Koontz fans will like it, Odd fans will LOVE it!
THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU !!!

. The Keepsake: A Novel
City Travel Guides > Books > Mystery and Thrillers
by: Tess Gerritsen
September 09, 2008
I was very disppointed in Patterson's new series for Young Adults. The kids at our library liked the Maximum Ride series for the first couple of books, so I was waiting for Daniel X's series. The teens at our library read a much better caliber of writing than this book. There were very interesting story lines in the book, just no development. Perhaps a few less books by the author, and more effort put into the books he writes, would be wise.

. The Hollow (Sign of Seven Trilogy, Book 2)
City Travel Guides > Books > Mystery and Thrillers
by: Nora Roberts
May 06, 2008
I have read a few of Nora Roberts' trilogies and they have kept my interest. However, when I picked up The Hollow I had no idea that it was even part of a trilogy. (Guess I should have known better.)I started this book three times and put it down while I read something else. I simply got tired of looking at the darn thing so forced myself to read it.
The premise of something evil returning to a small town every seven years should mean the reader is held from page one to the very end. But this reader found trouble right on page one. There was nothing to draw me in nor anything to keep me around.
Surprisingly for Ms. Roberts she spends a lot of time on useless filler with her six characters. Too much speculation on the pairing up of the couples ... Read More:

. World War Z: An Oral History of the Zombie War
City Travel Guides > Books > Mystery and Thrillers
by: Max Brooks
October 16, 2007
To be cliche this book is thought provoking. I'll admit zombies are a far cry from reality, but then again you never know. But the subject matter does bring into sharp clarity the fact that we as a civilization are too complacent, slow to act and to reliant on the poor information and sensationalist reporting of the local and national media. But these are just a few of the examples that will make you think about what is not quite right with out society and world after reading this book.
The subject matter is as I said far fetched but extremely well thought out and Max Brooks really must had did his research on the subjects that he deals with in each little "interview." The format of the book is fantastic and it's a great zombie universe he's created. I'd love ... Read More:

. Sinner: The Books of History Chronicles
City Travel Guides > Books > Mystery and Thrillers
by: Ted Dekker
September 02, 2008
I finished reading SINNER after a day-long sit-down and read. And now I really don't know what to make of the book. Yes, this was definitely a Dekker book, there is no doubt about that stylistically. I think I just expected a lot more from someone like Ted Dekker. And especially from a Paradise Novel.
I know this review will probably generate a lot of "non-helpful" votes, but before you say that it wasn't helpful just because you love Dekker, give me a moment to explain my feelings on SINNER.
First off, I have read this plot in other books. The LEFT BEHIND books has a similar idea (religious freedom being banned), as well as THE MIND SIEGE PROJECT and a couple of different Frank Peretti novels deal with similar subjects (PIERCING THE DARKNESS and NIGHTMARE ... Read More:
