I read a lot of political thrillers... good ones and not so good ones... this one I could not finish. The story was predictable, the characters caricatures of ultra-right wing rednecks and really, do I need to know that the characters ate before something happens in the story? Page 101: "once he gulped down his breakfast". Page 79 "he even allowed himself an after-dinner drink.". Page 115, "the resort's chef made a late lunch and the men made small talk as they ate". This weird interest in using meals as either filler or segways between scenes goes on and on. Did the publishers put a stipulation in his contract as to the number of pages he needed to fill? In case you don't know, the Woman's Murder Club is made up of San Francisco Detective Lindsay Boxer, Assistant D.A. Yuki Castellano, Medical Examiner Claire Washburn and Reporter Cindy Thomas. In this one we have three story lines going at once, all interesting.

The book opens with wacko Fred Brinkley firing six shots at passengers on a ferry. Four people die and Murder Club Member Claire Washburn is wounded. Brinkley is quickly arrested, but is he sane, Yuki is going to try awfully darned hard to prove he is.

Meanwhile person or persons unknown are kidnapping rich kids and their nannies. The nannies turn up without a pulse, but the children are kept by the nefarious bad guys, who warn the families that their darlings will ... Read More:

First of all, I loved Albom's book "Tuesdays with Morrie". This is a truly inspirational book about lesson on life and death and the struggles of an old man suffering from an incurable disease. An excellent read! However, I absolutely hated the other book "Five People you Meet in Heaven". I thought it would be a great sequel from the same author and purchased it. I got mislead by the many wonderful reviews from others. Big mistake!!! This book truly sucks!! It is distressing, depressing and downright scary beyond imagination. I cannot imagine "heaven" to be a miserable place where you get to relive all the mishaps and bad fortunes of your life. Silly stupid at times and unbelievable...and I loved it! Stephanie and her gang are always fun and this between the numbers book is no exception. I always look forward to spending time with the characters that Janet Evanovich creates.

I started to bail on this book several times, and now I wish I had. I was intrigued by Santo's murder, since initially he didn't seem to be one who had enemies. This book is way too long. Should have been edited to make it cleaner and quicker. I like my mysteries to zip along more than this lumbering tale. I wish it were tighter, with fewer characters. Definitely one of the plot lines did not move the story along. The ending was unremarkable.

Charlaine Harris really knows how to write a book, if you like your vampire series with a bit of humor you will like these books, if you like your mysteries with a bit of what we call "Woo Woo" (in other words weird stuff)
then you'll like Ms.Harris's Southern Vampire series and if you find you like it find the rest Sookie Stackhouse is a kick and coming in September 2008 on HBO, the series based on this books called "True Blood".

After reading these books I can understand why she is always on the Best Sellers list. After reading these 3 I went out and bought the whole series. Stephanie Plum is sassy, sexy and funny. Love the whole cast of characters. I laughed at loud at the antics of Grandma Mazur and Lula, love the sexual tension between her and Morreli and Ranger and the nerve-wracking situations she gets her self into. I like her better than Sue Grafton and Mary Higgins Clark put together. TRISH PFAFF
