This book was very helpful in deciding what to see on a recent trip to Yellowstone. I really liked that it had what to do if you only have one or two days in the park and then went much more in depth if you have more time.

FODOR'S MAINE COAST, 2ND EDITION is a great guide to everything you need to know about coastal Maine, whether it's shopping at the Maine Mall in South Portland, great outdoors-y stuff such as beaches, hiking, and seal watches, or important historical sites such as the home of Neal Dow, father of Prohibition. The only problem with this book is its failure to mention Bull Moose Music or any radio stations, but that's a minor quibble, as THE INSIDERS' GUIDE TO PORTLAND, MAINE and THE INSIDERS' GUIDE TO THE MAINE COAST cover those areas more than ably.

First, an acknowledgment, I was the author's roommate in London from September 1980 to January 1981 while studying in England during a semester abroad. I have seen him once since that time. I have corresponded with him via e-mail since he's been assigned to the United States by the BBC. He graciously lists me in the book's acknowledgments. During our time together in London, I felt my only contribution to his literary or journalism dreams occurred when I broke his portable Underwood typewriter. I feel duty bound to report that in our 4 1/2 months together, the author never once attempted to lick my arse, contrary to the assertion made previously by William Podmore of London United Kingdom in his review of this book. I was looking for a guide that explains me how a vacation in RV is. Pros and cons, suggestions, how to have a nice vacation if you are new to RVing. In the first 30 pages they explain all this, then it's just a bunch of chapters with vacation ideas. I already knew where i wanted to go, and my destination was not included in their suggestions so this book was completely useless for me. But if you are in your 40-50s, have an RV and don't know where to go in vacation, this is a good book for you.

I was introduced to this book by a friend and ended up buying the whole series! If you want to know more about western NC and spend your days enjoying a well written dialog that accurately directs you to place the other guides don't even mention, Buy this book. If you want a restaurant guide look elsewhere. I can wholeheartedly recommend the entire series from this publisher. Similar to the "off the beaten path" series only better, written by life long residents that obviously love their home state!
