My family and friends gave me over a dozen current San Francisco guidebooks before I moved there a few months ago. Out of all of them (Fodors, Rough Guide, Frommer, Let's Go, DK, etc) this Lonely Planet guide is my favorite. Not only is it the most up to date (the other guides had listings for businesses and restaurants that are no longer around) it is by far the most useful with easy to use, detailed maps for every section of the bay area. Also the history and culture sections are very well written and informative. Even though I'm now a native, I still carry this book around in a backpack when I go places around the city.

We carried this book all over DC. The information was accurate and up-to- date. The recommendations were helpful. The book was well organized, and the information was easy to access. The map is OK, but we also purchased another map to have with us. I would recommend this book over the Unofficial Guide to Washington DC.

As long as Americans are in love with lists and insecure about keeping up with their neighbors (in some far off state in this case)...books like this will continue to prosper, regardless of whether they actually make sense.

I found the weather section less than helppful as it didn't give any real information (days above 90 degrees snowfall etc) but opted for a 50 page breakdown of "regional weather environments"??

Not taking into concideration that weather can change signifigantly between neighboring cities just a few dozen miles apart.

I found this book very useful and helpful with my planning of a trip to Savannah in the near future. I enjoyed getting some "heads up" on various locales (and restrictions) having to do with the John Berendt novel "Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil"...which is of particular interest to me. Also appreciated the price guides for restaurants, and the hotel reviews, which included if the rooms were smoking, restricted smoking, or non-smoking. Will be packing this little book with me when I do go on my "dream trip" to the coast of Georgia!

For several years I've been using the Fodor's published books when going on vacation and wouldn't consider another product. When planning my visit to Arizona (having never been there) it was very helpful and detailed. The book is organized very well and now contains comments that have been submitted by other travelers. The book also contains a LOT of information about the Grand Canyon.

I purchased this book for a week of solo sightseeing before a friend's wedding. The walking tours looked great on the page, but were difficult to follow in reality and had very little information about each sight (luckily the most famous walking tour in Boston, The Freedom Trail, is marked by a red or brick line throughout the city so no directions are needed). I never found any incorrect information, but it all felt very cursory and left me looking online or calling locations for more detail. My primary problem with the book was the lack of dining information - it listed so few restaurants that it was nearly impossible to find one in my area and my price range at any given time. If you are brand new to LA, this book will help you out a lot. It seems like it would help someone who is looking for apartments, places to work, and trying to get an idea of what life is like in Los Angeles. If you have already been here for more than a few months, you will have undoubtedly figured out most of the information here on your own. Most of the book is taken up by a listing of restaurants, gyms, dog stores, grocery stores and other necessities. It seems more like a phone book than a guide for someone who would like to get the most out of his city.

If you have been in LA for a few months and have the money, this book will surely show you a few cool places, but nothing strikingly new will be revealed. It would better suit someone who is just on the ... Read More:

I love the NFT series of books, and this one is no exception! It's full of useful information, it's well organized, and it's pretty funny.

NFT is a cool company, and you can actually view their books on their site for free. However, at this price, it's well worth your money to have the whole book in a convenient portable format.

I have bought these as gifts several times, as well as for myself. I highly recommend them.
