We had bought the Moon guide for Utah and upon reading it realized it wasn't very good, so had this one expressly shipped just in time for our big trip. It was worth the extra shipping costs. It's full of useful information and it covers all the National Parks in Utah (so they should really change the title). The trip wouldn't have been the same without it.

This thing saved my butt last year.
I took a trip to Boston, and drove from Boston to Inverness, Nova Scotia on Cape Breton Island.
I went the scenic route, cutting through Maine to Calais / St Stephen, where I crossed the border into New Brunswick.
I had an atlas, I had maps, I had been studying maps of the entire Eastern seaboard for months and months. This was a solo journey so I wanted to be prepared. I decided to get the Lonely Planet guide on a whim. I figured I couldn't have too much information!
The thing about the Maritime Provinces that outsiders don't know, is that it's nearly impossible to get any good information on them from the conventional sources (internet, etc). Enter Lonely Planet guides.

I travel to San Francisco once or twice a year to get away from LA. Saw the book on Amazon and figured it would probably be a humorous read but didn't really expect any practical advice. To my surprise it was actually both. It's a smart funny read but it also REALLY DOES have the low down on free food, fun, and frolicking. My boyfriend and I went up a few weeks ago and planned the whole weekend using the book. Found plenty of art, parks, and music to keep us busy and hit some cheap and/or free happy hours and food joints. Probably the most fun I've had in the City and definitely the least expensive weekend ever! Thanks for the tips. Much appreciated!!

Really great book, the only problem, the pictures are all in black & white, its an overview of the Californian State, but if you want a more detailed focus on each city you may need additional guides.

I actually used up my first copy of this book - I still have it but the pages are falling out and it is pretty dog-eared, so I bought the updated version. I love the rating systems (1-5 for difficulty, 1-10 for ooohs and aaahhhs), the area maps, the specific tips for each hike. My husband and I hike in the Sierras a lot during the summer and this book has taken us to some wonderful places. We even used the book to celebrate our 30th wedding anniversary with a "hike" across the Golden Gate Bridge! Just about anywhere you go in California, this book can guide you to a very satisfying hike.

We recently returned form WDW and had a great time! The tips in the book were valuable. It helped our family enjoy most of the rides and attractions with minimal wait. 15 minutes was the max wait time - even in peak season, mid-August on a Monday afternoon. The tips on how to use the Fastpass system helped us to walk on to most rides. Other attractions were a brief wait. Tips for parade watching gave us choice seats and views. The book needs to be updated for 2008 - some attractions don't have fastpass anymore. Other than that, great buy! A must read before heading to WDW with the family. The book also provides tips for Universal and SeaWorld which is a bonus.

Well it started with Merle's Door. After that wonderful book I wanted to read more about the writer and see what else he had up his sleeve. Well I was not dissappointed with this book. What a joy to read. Every sentence, every word was descriptive. He does not waste words. Very enjoyable and a pleaseure to read. It feels like you are right there with him enjoying the same visual treat, in the canoe, watching the wildlife or lying in the tent while the rain pours from the skys. I love the way this guy writes. I too used to camp and canoe until work and worries kept me with my nose to the computer or exhausted from work stretched out on the couch. He has inspired me to see nature and be apart of it again. I'm planning to take my two teenagers cross country this summer and this is a GREAT book for finding interesting places to show them. It has excellent maps, clear directions, and well-written descriptions of what you will (and won't) see so I can figure out what sites will best entertain the different family members. I only wish we had time to see more of the places they describe. It even tells you what other nearby attractions there are. Kudos to the authors!
