I wanted to use this book to plan some interesting stops along and off of I-40. However, there are minimal maps and unless you look up every single town in each division of Tennessee, you have no idea if they are anywhere near I-40 or not. When I have purchased from the "Off the Beaten Path" guides in the past, they had maps with the places discussed marked at least in some way. I frankly don't know how you would much use this book to plan a trip across Tennesee. It would only be helpful if you lived there and wanted to explore around a segment of the state.

Unless you live in Montana or are very familiar with the State, then this book will be of little use. Get yourself a good guide book and a detailed map. Montana is a beautiful state, but this book was not helpful on our recent trip. And it's a very dull read, in my humble opinion. Pass.

Three-fourths of this book is dedicated to Kenya. The addition of Tanzania was clearly an afterthought. The descriptions of lodgings are rather generic and there are only a few hotels, attractions, or restaurants listed. On Zanzibar, we did better with a 20 page pamphlet of ads than with this book. Don't waste your money on this book if you're headed to Tanzania or Zanzibar.

I bought this for my parents as they had recently moved from California to Conn. They love this book as it has allowed them to find some great bedroom communities nearby.
A true review would be from someone who knows the area, but for outsiders this was a great purchase.

I bought this book before a trip to the Hill Country this past spring. One of the author's suggestions, which turned out to be the highlight of our trip, was to drive the Willow City Loop - we ended up driving it twice because it was so beautiful. We would have never found it without this book, and I've bought several other books similar to this one since our trip and not one of them mentions it.

I used this book (4th edition) a few years ago on a road trip from Halifax, NS to Saint George, NB. This book and a road map were very helpful in getting around the region and getting a sense of the history and background of the area.

The book covers New Brunswick, Prince Edward Island, and Nova Scotia. Each province is divided into multiple sections and each section has a map with some key towns on it. You will find lots of recommendations for shopping, lighthouses, natural parks, art galleries, historical homes, museums, restaurants, places to stay, local tours, and as the book title suggests, some off-the-beaten path places. This book is hilarious!...and informative. The travel essays tell how it really is to travel in some of these incredibly remote, but incredibly wonderful parts of SE Asia. Unlike most travel guides that merely descibe the points of interest, without honestly telling how difficult it can be to get there--without doing it the "tour group way"--this book tells how YOU can do it on your own...but gives some advice to ease the trip as well as to caution the traveler. Every chapter also provides tons of information on the history and politics, etc. of the region, too. But what I like most is that the author encourages everyone to give independent travel a try. Mundane, charmless potboiler -- not recommended. Looks like they just pulled a bunch of (out of date) stuff off the internet and pasted it into a book. Nothing unique or "off the beaten path" about this -- it's just a compendium of local restaurants and historical houses.
