. Colorado Off the Beaten Path, 7th: A Guide to Unique Places
City Travel Guides > Books > Off the Beaten Path

The author seems to ramble when describing some places that are a "must see". For example, 3 full pages were spent describing a climbing trip, describing only one rock face feature in Boulder, while there were many other places that tourists may be interested in, were not even given a mention. Overall, I found this to be a disappointing travel guide. There are better out there, keep on looking. You never know, you may actually find something that is "off the beaten path".

I also bought their guides for new mexico amd arizona, and really didin't need this guide after all--it touches the high points in each state, but in western kansas, e.g., it didn't
touch on anything.

The good thing about this book is that it talks about many of the scenic sites and other things that you can do for free. It's also good about telling you about historic societies and museums where you can find history of the culture. But most of the sites they mention are listed in the the other books that I have (Maui Revealed and The Big Island Revealed). These two books cover much more information, and cover the same information as this book, but in more detail. For instanace, this book will tell you that there's a legend associated with a certain place, and make a small mention of it, but the Revealed books explain it more. I didn't find anything in here that I didn't see in my other books. It's a good book, but unfortunately someone ... Read More:

This guide offers information and other important details of the area but lacks any real depth as far as the "Off the Beaten Path" stuff goes.If you need a quick list of restaurants or hotels it is good. I would not buy it for backroads travel though, much better guides out there for that.
