.Maryland and Delaware Off the Beaten Path: A Guide to Unique Places City Travel Guides > Books > Off the Beaten Path by: Judy Colbert June 01, 2001 I have had the previous version of this guide for quite a few years and found it fairly useful. Most of the locations are pretty well known and a lot of the information is sorely outdated. For example, the author lists contact information for a local artist, along with an address for visitors. I live next door to the house in question and the artist has long since moved on to a managed care facility and the home is definitely not a museum that welcomes visitors any more. .Southern California Off the Beaten Path: A Guide to Unique Places City Travel Guides > Books > Off the Beaten Path by: Kathy Strong December 01, 1998 We relied on "Southern California Off the Beaten Path" for several stops on a recent trip to San Diego and environs, and found the book's information seriously misleading. The author seems to find places quaint and charming that we thought dumpy, commercial, or just very unattractive, and we cancelled at least one reservation because we didn't want to spend the night on a noisy commercial [area], completely unrecognizable from the book's description. We wondered if it had been compiled from Chamber of Commerce handouts. .Berkeley Guides: New York City '97: On the Loose, On the Cheap, Off the Beaten Path (On the Loose) City Travel Guides > Books > Off the Beaten Path by: Fodor's October 29, 1996 This book was funny, informative, and hip. It had information that was in none of the other travel books, and it is not boring like the Lonely Planet Guides. It was also organized in a great easy to read style. It lists places to eat for under five dollars which is great, too. The 'Doing Business in China' section in this guide, though brief, is excellent. Also the Beijing, Shanghai and Hong Kong sections are very good. Also helpful, Fodor has various proposed itineraries for several cities and regions found throughout the book. I am a firm believer that any guide book worth its salt has to guide you with both words and quality maps. This guide has excellent dining and lodging maps for Beijing, Shanghai and Hong Kong but sadly stops there. Fodor's other regional maps are very helpful and the city maps clearly show you sites to visit. Twenty writers have collectively compiled what amounts to a travel ...
