.Louisiana Off the Beaten Path: A Guide to Unique Places City Travel Guides > Books > Off the Beaten Path by: Gay N. Martin December 01, 2000 This is a great book to get if you aren't very familiar with the state of Louisiana. Being a native, I picked this book up hoping to find something that I might have missed in my neck of the woods. The book breaks down the state into distinctive regions(much like the guide from the Louisiana Tourism Bureau) and picks out some fairly unique spots to check out. My suggestion is that you use this book to make your way to the smaller towns in Louisiana, such as DeQuincy, Ville Platte, Mamou, Oberlin, etc. Then, find a local dive and ask someone there where the really good stuff is. .Missouri Off the Beaten Path: A Guide to Unique Places City Travel Guides > Books > Off the Beaten Path by: Patti DeLano September 01, 2000 Having discovered the Off the Beaten Path series while planning a vacation to South Dakota, I didn't hesitate to pick up the Missouri copy to see what I was missing in my backyard. I'm really glad I did! Even though I've discovered many things since moving to Missouri, this book has helped me discover quite a few new places to explore. The book has broken Missouri into concise geographical sections, so when planning a trip, you only have to look at the section of the state where you'll be travelling. The usual topics of lodging shopping, and restaurants are covered very well, but what I find most interesting are the little-known cultural artifacts highlighted in the book. It doesn't do a bad job of describing lots of Beijing sites, but there's not much here that you won't find in any other Beijing travel guide. The descriptions of each place are a little more in-depth than your typical LP or Fodor's guide, but it doesn't have much in the way of hidden treasures that you can't find elsewhere, nor is it comprehensive. .Berkeley Guides: Great Britain & Ireland 1996: On the Loose, On the Cheap, Off the Beaten Path (Berkeley Guides) City Travel Guides > Books > Off the Beaten Path by: Fodor's January 01, 1996 I may not be a college student, but I sure made use of every penny while visiting the United Kingdom. I stayed at many of the Bed & Breakfasts mentioned in the book and even met the home owner mentioned in one B&B review where I stayed in Dublin. I found this book to be accurate in it's descriptions and it fit what I was looking for in a guide book. How to see the most for my travel dollar. I saw it all and saved a bunch.
