After our second day in Santiago I don't think my book was even opened. It became an amusing side joke to the trip. Like some of the other reviews, I agree that it caters to a traveller that is not on a strict budget. It did not seem thourough or detalied enough to give the reader options. There were the few recommendations and that was it. On the positive side, the recommendations were good ones. The book simplified scenarios that could be overwhelming with too many options. In many instances it could at least point you in the right direction. If you are buying a book for Chile, I think you can find a more complete book somewhere else ... Although the cheapo hostels are not covered, all the great small and large hotels were honestly reviewed, and all the best isalnds were covered in real detail. An excellant book for people who want to discouver the real Bahamas and have one to two weeks to do so. It recommends you visit a particular place, but you have to use some other means of finding out where that place is! (Open Road's Costa Rica Guide) City Travel Guides > Books > Open Roads by: Paul Glassman 1993-10 Each summer I go to Costa Rica with a group of students to do a course in Sustainable Development. As a consequence I collect Costa Rican guidebooks. The previous guide by this author was good and I looked forward to this one. This one was a bit of a disappointment. The guide presents a good straight forward description of Costa Rica and is still a useful tool for travellers. Where this book suffers is in the details. I first came aware of this when I was trying to use it in Monteverde and I found out that there were many errors in the map presented. I eventually learned that the map presented things as they were in arly 1997. This is a real problem for a guide published in 2000 especially since there are guides ...
