.Gemstones (Smithsonian Handbooks) City Travel Guides > Books > Outdoors and Nature by: Cally Hall May 15, 2002 I'm a new beader, and while this is a beautiful book, many of the stones I buy are not listed when I look them up in the color-code index. My hopes were that when I forgot what the stone was called, or wanted more info to tell my customers, I could find it. There are so many color variations and so many semi-precious gemstones being made into beads, it may be impossible to have a total reference book. This is such a rewarding book - so much information, such insights, interesting case studies, lots of documentation in the form of scientific studies. I loved this book so much that after reading the library copy, I asked to have it as a birthday present, and then turned around and bought two copies of it as a CD to give my son-in-law and a friend to listen to in the car. (the moon, mars, milky way etc) The book is well designed aesthetically and practically, beautiful in it's complexity but organized in a way thats easy to follow. it doesn't get any better than this. Most guests at my house notice the giant blue book pretty quickly and have shown nothing but amazed impressions. I definitely approve of this (honestly) hefty purchase. .Mastering Mountain Bike Skills City Travel Guides > Books > Outdoors and Nature by: Brian Lopes, Lee McCormack March 13, 2005 I'm a rider of intermediate skill and wanted to better understand some of the more intricate dynamics of mountain bike riding to further improve my riding techniques - this book does it in spade loads. The book is well laid out and gives good step by step instructions as well as the reasoning behind why things are done. Tips I found particularly useful are the various weightings applied to wheels, pedals and handlebars to load tyres for better grip, etc in certain situations such as cornering climbing. A lot of these things you can pick up with experience but if you know why in the first place some of these things become self evident before you pick up bad habits.
