First I will admit that I am a fan of Lencioni's previous titles. The author's style of writing is to teach trough a story of characters that you can identify with. The sub-title of the book is "A Leadership Fable". This is not a book that proposes a lesson through theory but through application.

I found myself able to identify with the characters in the story from the first page all the way through the entire book. I completed the book in three hours because I could not stop reading once I picked it up.

If as an undergraduate I had turned in a term paper of the quality of Guyland, it would have been returned to me. Statistics are cited without sources. (Some are some aren't.) Works cited posing as current are sometimes twenty-five years old, presented alongside current research. The assumption is evidently that the reader will not go to the line notes at the back, caught up in the snazzy, cool rhetoric of the writing. Most sources are popular press articles. Masquerading as research and scholarly work, it is hard to know what readership Professor Kimmel has in mind with this book. This is a work misandry (man-hating). Goleman provides lots of scientific tidbits, but little advice on how to actually describe, assess, or teach social intelligence as a set of practical competencies. As with his first book, "Emotional Intelligence: Why It May Be More Important than IQ," educators and business users will find it necessary to develop their own methods for application.

This book was really designed for younger children than my 4yr old, but I was able to successfully adapt the concepts within the book and within one afternoon we went from diapers/pullups to underwear and dry pants. He is even dry at nights now. We did experience a reluctance to have a BM in the potty chair but even that wasn't as much of a struggle as in other attempts over the last two years. I was real pleased with how this book took you step by step, and I would recommend it to anyone who wants to avoid the frustration of potty training, even if my experience wasn't ideal, it was more successful than any other method had been.
