Rather than an esoteric view of maternal narcissism, this author has kept it simple, concise, and very easy to read. The point-by-point outline, stringers and explanations were to put it simply, brilliant. She interjected explanations to the descriptions of what a narcissist is, and thereby gave it a more feeling touch.

I was to discover ah-ha's on each and every page, to see how the behavior of my parent impacted on my life in more ways than I would have believed possible. I have seen these principles in action and they are emotionally damaging to children. Buyer Beware: Unsound Biblical basis for these books. This is the secular version. Based on unsound methods that go against well known developmental truths. Choose Biblically sound, emotionally healthy Christian parenting such as that recommended by the Sears.

I bought this book as both someone working in the field, and someone who has Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD). This book was written in the 80's and is very outdated to begin with. What really got to me, however, is the way things were phrased. First, it links sexual orientation with a patient having an unstable self-identity. Personally, I am a lesbian and that is quite stable and has been for the past 10 years (I am 24 years old). It also links sexual orientation with sexual deviance. Enough said. This book has altered the course of my life. I whole-heartedly recommend it to anyone who would like to improve their relationships with their spouse, parents, siblings, children, bosses, coworkers, friends, or ANYONE. It teaches fundamentals about the human nature of communication, offering real-life examples to aid in understanding. I think this story trancends race. It's really just a story of a mother who made choices and gave her all in an extremely trying environement. I was moved. I read this after reading Miracle at St. Anna which was great!

Of all the books I've purchased on the subject of Autism, this one is by far the best one. I was so tired of all the clinical, academic, despairing accounts of ASD in other books, that I stopped reading any material on Autism altogether.

But, this book is completely packed with not only great ideas for teaching and raising our child with ASD, but for ENJOYING our child with ASD!! Finally! The authors bring a sense of sweet humor to daily life, with a real-life sensibility that is missing from every piece of Autism literature I've seen. It has now been several months since reading Tony Attwood's excellent book and I have pulled it out to read again. It provides invaluable insights into myself and many people that I know.

Tony's light-hearted approach keeps it readable. As he says, he has discovered a means of removing almost all of the symptoms of Asperger's from a person. Simply put that person in a room, by themselves, alone. The symptoms have now disappeared.

When it comes time to understand what happens when other people are in the room with someone who has Asperger's Syndrome, then read this book.

This book tells exactly how hundreds of thousands of real alcoholics have been saved from alcoholism. How can anyone be critical of that if it works? Only the stupid, or ignorant can criticize a book which has literally saved so many people from certain death (not to mention the thousands more they could have victimized).
It is truly a miracle, by virtue of all of the people it has saved.
True, there are thousands more who have failed the program of recovery this book details, but in that is the reason. They failed to do exactly what this book directs them to do. The book didn't fail them.

I bought this book in lieu of attending classes on breastfeeding. While it IS a book and not an actual instructor, I feel pretty confident about what I need to know to properly breastfeed my baby. There is a lot of information in this book on techniques, how to deal with breastfeeding a premie, continuing to breastfeed after going back to work, when to wean, what solid foods to start the baby on, even a bit of behavioral info. I found it very well rounded and easy to understand. It's going to be one of those books I'll be referencing frequently just before my son is due, but won't feel like I have to look at the pictures while I'm trying to breastfeed my son.
