After seeing that this book had the most positive reviews, I took a chance and bought this for my 3.5 year old son.
Presently, we are at lesson 52 and my son can successfully read 5-sentence stories with CVC words and even 6 letter words such as kitten.
As a preschool teacher, I was a bit worried that I was not following DAP (developmentally appropriate practices) since teaching reading is recommended for about ages 4-5. I took my son's and teachers' cues instead and now think that I have made the right choice.
Before you start your child on this book, it would help if he has the basic knowledge of:
a. letters
b. letter sounds
c. starting to sight read some words

I was impressed by the claims of "instant pain relief" by many of the commenters of this book, so I was looking forward to receiving this book as soon as possible. I recently bruised a nerve that caused my thumb to become tingly and I get upper back pain after typing for hours at a time at work, but rest assured, none of the claims came true. Apparently this is a case of the placebo effect and nothing more, i.e. - it will only possibly work if you have blind faith that it will work. For example, none of the exercises ever offered any "instant relief" and I could not feel any beneficial effect like the "loosening of knots" from any of the exercises. The author gives excellent advice on how each person can grow and learn to fulfill their own needs as well as their spouse's. Even if my marriage does not work out I will take comfort in the fact that my next spouse will get the very best me possible.

It is also an exceptionally easy read and great book about this topic I Love You. Now What?: Falling in Love is a Mystery, Keeping It Isn't.

The experience of reading this book was a bliss. For all of us who had strong willed children, this book is the real deal.

Written clearly, well structured, with extremely real examples that one can find in most areas of parenting.

This book is a reference, and also a motive to look within ourselves and really understand what we need to be willing to do to raise healthy children, for their sake and ours.

I strongly recommend this to any parent, period.

This may very well be one of the most important books I have read this year ... or the past few years.

I purchased "Last Child in the Woods" right after I heard Richard Louv interviewed on a local radio program. I was so moved by his message and impressed with the breadth of his knowledge and depth of experience. And it all translates well in the book.

"Last Child..." feels more like a conversation than a text(book). It's just that comfortable and open. Yet it very strikingly paints a picture of what is currently happening to children and our world as well as what may yet happen if nothing is done to reverse "nature deficit disorder".
