I encourage every parent to read this book despite your stance on immunizations. Dr. Sears gives so much information about each vaccine and its components. He also gives facts about studies that have been conducted and talks about the lack of studies specifically about aluminum amounts in the immunizations. My daughter is 3 months old. I have decided to follow his Alternative Vaccination Schedule. After reading this book and other articles online, and talking with friends whose children had reactions to vaccinations, I feel that I should give my daughter vaccinations to protect her against diseases but that the combination shots are unnecessary and carry a higher risk of side-effects. Although the book title clearly aims itself at the successful managers, it is a good antidote for all who want to do better particularly on interpersonal relationship and leadership, that previous success, no matter big or small, almost always mar ourselves with complacency, self centredness, over confidence etc etc. Well organised with wit and good substance, it did help improve my communication skills, till the time I forgot them all, and then pick it out for a re-read. In short, recommended.

The book is based on an interesting premise and the writing style is very easy to read, it really sucks you in. I personally REALLY like Malcolm Gladwell's books/lectures/ideas -- he's defeinitely one of my favorites.

Note that after reading this book I'm not convinced that I completely agree with the fundamental arguement it's trying to make. I also didn't like it as much as Gladwell's previous book, Tipping Point. But, I don't want to sound overly critical. What I consider high quality writing isn't based upon whether or not I agree with the arguement the author is trying to make. The ideas are unique and creative and that alone is basis enough for me to give this book four stars. One last note is that you might want to look at the rebuttal to this book titled Think! This is very much like Soros's other books: a mix of (his own) Philosophy in PART I, and its possible applicability to the Finance markets of the time in PART II.

If you like Taleb's mix of Philosophy and Finance in Fooled by Randomness: The Hidden Role of Chance in Life and in the Markets and The Black Swan: The Impact of the Highly Improbable then you'll Soros's approach.

If you're looking to emulate Soros's success, this book doesn't tell you how to do this in concrete steps. The theory of reflexivity explains the nature of financial markets (the problem) but doesn't give a solution.

This book has truly helped me to step back and take the time needed at the beginning of the year to establish strong routines. I don't believe the information is new, it is just laid out in a consise, reader friendly manner. My students are much more on-task and quiet during literacy work times. The "first 25 days" quidelines have been invaluable for lesson planning and getting my school year off to a successful start!
